“He’s going to kill you.”

“He’s what? I didn’t quite hear that.”

“I said he’s going to kill you!” I scream as loud as I can. All that gets me is another laugh and another hit. I wince, this time shaking my head to try and rid the tears.

“This would be so much easier if I didn’t have to chase them down. Here’s what we’re going to do, Lyra. We’re going to call your new little boyfriend, and we’re going to have him meet us with the boys. Even exchange. He can have your ass.”

“I won’t do it,” I tell him, shaking my head. There’s no way in hell that I’m going to tell him that.

“You will do it,” Dave argues before pulling a knife from his pocket and pressing it to my throat. I’d rather die than let him near my kids. Doesn’t he understand that? Nevertheless, I play along and nod my head.

“Okay. I’ll … I’ll tell him.” He smirks like he won, but he hasn’t. I won’t let him near the boys.

The knife is moved away when he pulls out his cell phone and dials. How did he even get Knight’s number? Is he smarter than I thought he was? No, he’s a fucking idiot if he truly believes I’m going to help him get the boys here.

“Hello?” I hear Knight’s voice when Dave puts it on speakerphone, and my heart sinks. “Hello?” he says once more.

Dave raises an eyebrow, telling me to speak, but words won’t form.

“I’ll kill you. I will make it long and drawn out if you lay a hand on her,” Knight finally says.

“I want my boys. You can have her,” Dave tells him.

“You think it’s that easy? You want the boys? Come get them. I fuckin’ dare you to try,” Knight says calmly. He’s too calm. How is he so controlled right now?

“Don’t let him near the boys!” I scream loud enough so he can hear me.

“Lyra, Mama. I’m gonna take care of this,” Knight promises as Dave pulls the knife out once more and jams it into my side. I scream in pain as the burn eats me alive.

“Leave her alone! I’m fuckin’ warnin’ you,” Knight screams into the line.

“I like hearing her scream. Now I want my boys. I want them at a certain place at a certain time. If you don’t deliver them, I will kill her, and you will never see her again. Is that what you want?” Dave asks him, keeping his tone as calm as Knight’s.

“You’re a dead man walkin’, Dave. When I find you, and I will find you, I’m gonna take my time on you. You’re gonna beg me for death. You’re gonna wish you’d never met me.” The coldness in his tone isn’t something I’ve ever heard from Knight, but I believe him. I believe what he’s saying right now. This is the part of Knight he promised to keep away from me.

Dave rattles off an address and tells Knight to have the boys there in an hour before hanging up. When he does, he turns back to me, slamming the end of the phone into my face.

“You bastard,” I growl at him.

“You think pretty boy will save you? That piece of trash will never find you,” he tells me. I don’t care if he finds me as long as Dave doesn’t get anywhere near my kids.

“Fuck you, Dave.”

“You can’t run anymore, Lyra. I have you now, and I can do whatever I want to you. There’s no one here to stop me.” With that, he stabs me over and over again until I’m numb. My body feels weightless as blood pours out of me.

Knight

Ridge types away at the keyboard as I pace the room with my hand tugging at my hair. He has to be local. He has to be close by. He couldn’t have gotten far.

“He wants the boys,” I repeat.

“He isn’t gettin’ the boys,” Tarek reminds me. I already knew that. I wasn’t letting them go anywhere near that motherfucker, but now I don’t know what kind of shape Lyra is in either. I’m worried about her. I’m worried about how I’m going to find her.

“He has a house in his name. Local,” Ridge finally announces. I blow out a breath of relief at that. He rambles off the address, and then I’m on my way out the door.

“Wait! Who are we sendin’ after him?” Ridge asks.
