Lexi laughs through the tears that are falling down. “I want my mornings to start with you and to fall asleep at night with you curved by my side. I want you to be my present and my future. I want you to be it all and be it all for you.” Finally, I prop the box open and take the gold ring with an emerald stone in the middle, surrounded by smaller diamonds around it in a halo.

“I can’t promise to be perfect, but I do promise to try my damn hardest. I love you, Alexandra Ellis, marry me, be mine now and forever?”

With that, I hold my breath and wait for the most important answer in my life.

“Oh my God, Lan! Yes, baby, yes, I want all of that with you. Yes, yes, yes!” I slip the ring on her finger and scoop my fiancé up in my arms, kissing her and twirling us around the foyer of our future home.

Speaking of…

“You just made me the happiest man alive, Lexi. I did not believe that I would ever consider getting down on one knee again, but you came in rolling in like a hot ball, causing an avalanche in my life, and I could not be any happier.” I kiss her more and more.

“This place here is our home. I know I bought it without your knowledge, but I wanted to surprise you, and let’s be honest, your tiny room in an apartment with that biker for a roommate will not cut it for us as a family.” She laughs a loud, carefree laugh, and it lights up my world.

“I cannot believe all this right now! My head is spinning.” I set her down and pressed my forehead to hers.

“Believe it, love, I’ll do anything for you, for us.” I plant a gentle kiss on her nose.

“When did you have time to get it?”

“Well, I only got the keys yesterday, but I put in the offer before the whole marriage situation came up.”

I knew for a while that this girl would be my wife, and I’m not a patient man, so I started building our future right away.

“You are crazy! But you are my kind of crazy!” She kisses me, and I give her a tour of the place.

In each room, we discuss what we will change and what we will keep. Which room will belong to our daughters and which one for the sons. We talk about all the dinners we will host in this dining room and plan to turn the basement into a guest suite for our friends to spend the night. Lexi’s excitement levels are through the roof, and it’s the best outcome I could have ever hoped for.

In all honesty, I was totally prepared for an angry tantrum and stomping of feet, but my girl is excited and happy, making plans to go furniture shopping.

“Lan, this place is huge! Maybe we should have started with an apartment of some kind?”

“Nope.” I wrap my hands from behind her as we stand in our garden area off of the kitchen, soaking up the sun. “We need plenty of space for all the babies I plan to put in you.”

“Oh my goodness, you really are a caveman, aren’t you? And exactly how many are ‘all the babies,’” Lexi asks.

“Hmm, five?” She turns around and shoots me a mortified look.

“You better be joking!” I burst out laughing. “Two, max three. That’s all you get.”

“We shall see, Kitten, we shall see.” This girl has no idea how crazy I am for her, and I want as many kids together as possible. Oh, and I’d like to start trying right about now.

I bring my lips to her neck and plant a few soft kisses, trailing my hands down her body.

“You drive me nuts, woman. Let’s start on that family now.” We scramble inside and make love to each other on our naked living room floors.

Soon each room of this place will be christened with our love, and I will enjoy the rest of my life here with my wife.

One month later…

Life has never been better. We are a month away from our wedding day and have finally fully moved into our townhome.

If it were up to me, the wedding would have happened a week after I proposed—if not the next day—but Lexi and her mom had other plans.

Yes, we made up with her family. Josh Ellis took some time getting on board, but I was and still am determined to show him that his daughter is my everything and I will treat her like gold.

Anyway, after I proposed, we got together for dinner to break the news to them, and that was intense, but we did it. Now they are as excited about our wedding day as I am. Or at least Lexi’s mom is. They have been planning and planning and dress shopping and dragging me along for food and cake tasting.

Can’t say I mind even one bit.
