That one touch sent my body in overdrive, and all I want is her on top of my desk, but that couldn’t happen.

A. Lexi doesn’t allow sex in the office anymore. Not since we came out of hiding, and everyone knows of our relationship.

B. I have other plans for today, and as much as it pains me to take my hands off her, they cannot wait.

“Lan! You know the rules,” she reminds me once again and I drop my head in her lap.

“You will be the death of me. I really hate that rule. Can we make some kind of amendment to it? How am I supposed to look at you the whole day and not touch you?”

“I never said you can’t touch,” the little vixen smirks at me, and I groan.

“Jesus, who is the demon out of the two of us now?”

“You, baby, definitely still you.” Lexi leans down and kisses me lightly.

And that is the truth. Only because I’m soft and gooey for my kitten does not mean I changed for everyone else.

Lexi is the only one who gets me without the walls and skeletons.

Well, maybe our friends do too—to extend—but at work, I am still the asshole boss that terrorizes everyone.

“Come on, let’s go have lunch before I break that rule of yours.” My girlfriend laughs as I drag her out the door.

Girlfriend…

Hopefully, not for much longer.

“Where are you taking me?” She asks as we get in the car.

“There is this one new place I want to show you.”

“Okay, surprise it is,” Lexi says with a smile.

You have no idea, Kitten.

Twenty minutes later, we pull up to our destination. “Um, Lan? Did you get lost? This does not look like a cafe or a restaurant.” She looks at me, confused.

Nope, this place is definitely not a cafe. Not even close.

“Come on,” I say and open her door. Lexi climbs out and follows me to a five-story, tree-lined limestone townhouse in Upper East Side. The outside is a light cream color with black-rimmed windows, and we walk up the curved steps to the front door.

Lexi looks around as if waiting for me to say, ‘just kidding, let’s go,’ but when I pull out the key and slide it to open the townhome, she draws her eyebrows together.

“Landon? What is this? Did you get a new place?”

“Something like that. Come on, let’s go inside.”

Lexi steps in with a wary look. Inside the home is lined with dark brown oak hardwood floors, the walls are crisp white and to our left a beautiful staircase leads to the upper floors.

“I am not taking another step until you explain what is going on? I thought there were no more secrets between us!” Lexi digs in her heels and crosses her arms.

This is not how I planned to do it, but of course, my infuriating woman has zero patience. Instantly, I drop to one knee, and her arms fall limp to her sides. Her whole posture visibly relaxes and tenses at the same time.

“Lan?”

“Shhh, let me have this moment.” I fish a black leather box out of my jacket and Lexi gasps, bringing both her hands to clasp her cheeks. “Kitten. From the day I saw you pass my office, I knew. Deep inside my heart, I already knew you were different and that you would wreck my life. Just 3 seconds, love. That’sall it took for me to know that you are mine. Just three seconds for me to plan our whole future together, our lives, our family. I’ve never felt happier than when I am with you, and at the same time, no one drove me more mad. I will forever be sorry for hurting you the way I did, but I will also spend the rest of my life making it up to you.

“I want that with you, Lexi. I want it all, the naked-in-bed-all-day thing, a crazy, romantic wedding, and all the boring domestic chores afterward. I want your fire and glares, as well as all your smiles and laughs. I want my hand on your rounded belly and sleepless nights with crying babies. I want dinners with our weird friends—yes, even the overprotective biker.”
