Mine might be bigger, but that’s semantics.

“You go home at twelve AM?”

“Please, like you didn’t notice,” I snort again.

“Actually, as you are well aware, I had off-site meetings the whole past week in the evening and had no idea at what time you go home.”

Fine, he gets the point for that one.

“Go home,” he says, and I swear my eyebrows didn’t go up that high before.

“It’s four o’clock. I can’t go home yet.”

“I’m your boss, and I’m telling you to go home.”

“You know what, who am I to argue?” I get up, grab my bag and take off. He doesn’t want me to stay, I won’t. Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t be doing my job from home. I can’t just drop my duties.

I know, I’m sick in the head. But if I am trusted with something, I will do it until the end. Every department already depends on my input regarding their work for the day. I won’t, however, do anything for the bosshole.

He can get his own dinner for once.

Kate nearly jumps out of her skin when she sees me at home before nightfall.

“Lexi? Oh my goodness, you are home! Did he finally fire you?” She asks, full of hope.

“No such luck, but he did tell me to get off the clock sooner. So, I’m grateful for the little things.”

“Oh, wow, he did?” Kate looks as surprised as I was.

“Yep, he did. After I gave him a pep talk about not respecting him.” I take out my favorite red wine and pour myself a generous glass.

I deserve it.

Kate shakes her head and snickers under her breath. “Only you, Lex. Only you could talk back to your boss and not get fired but instead given an early out.”

“I wish he’d fire me already!” I groan.

“Well, you do your job way too well. I won’t be surprised if he comes up with some new ridiculous rule at the end of this month to keep you there longer.”

“No, no, no, no!” I shake my head. “Not happening; that asshole can kiss my ass if he thinks I’ll stick around longer than absolutely necessary. He is evil incarnate!”

“So you keep saying,” Kate smirks.

“Why did you do that?” I motion with one finger to her face.

“Do what?”

“That little smirk you got going.”

“No smirk, it’s just interesting….”

“What’s interesting?”

“Why are you so worked up about this guy?”

“Because he is an asshole without any morale or empathy.”

“Is he hot?”
