No, noooo, this right here is precisely the problem. I seem to have no self-control around this man. My fingers jumped to my puffy, brutalized lips, and I lightly rubbed the tips against them.

I’ve never been kissed like that. Like it’s life-or-death. Like if he stops kissing me, life itself will cease. Stuart never kissed me like that.

Landon depraved me of all rational thought, making me lose any twinge of sanity or logical thinking. I knew my attraction to him was there. But I never imagined it to be this strong, this all-consuming. Powerful and frightening.

All I knew was his heavy, hot, and very powerful body had its hold on me. And not just physically. Somehow during this month of my working here, Landon Locke took hold of my mind and soul.

Somehow, he became essential to my existence, and I need to fix that.

I will not let another man—especially one like him—derail me again.

Without bothering to finish my work for the day, I grab my bag and flee the office. Running away and hiding. I need to think everything through, scold myself, and set up a new plan with clear rules and regulations before I see that man again.

And wine.

I need lots of wine for this.

Two hours later, I am properly drunk and in a phase of “why am I so stupid? I could’ve had mind-blowing sex right now.”

Clearly, wine was a wrong decision.

I seem to be a queen of those today. Hell, past few years.

I’m lying on the floor, contemplating my stupid life, when I hear my best friend. “Lexi! What are you doing? What’s going on? Get up.” She tries to pull me up.

“Just leave me here to die and promise that I will have a badass funeral with no sappy crap,” I tell her, and by the sounds she’s making, Kate is not amused by me. Whatever. I’m amused.

“Are you drunk? Wait, stupid question. You obviously are. The real question is, why?”

“I messed up so bad, Katie. So, so, so bad. Like veeeeeeryyyyyy bad. Like monstrous bad. Like Mount Everest bad. Like—” she cuts me off.

“Okay, stop it. I get it. You messed up big time. Time for a confession. What did you do, and does it have anything to do with the black Range Rover camped out in front of our apartment?” I fly up from the floor with supersonic speed.

I heard her right, right?

She said black Range Rover? As in his Range?

Wow, that got me sober faster than a cold shower and a fatty meal.

“Landon is here?” I ask with my eyes bulging out.

“I guess? I didn’t actually knock on the window, you know. But he’s been there for at least two hours.”

“Oh my God…”

“Lexi, you gotta tell me what happened? Did he hurt you? Do I need to set Julius lose on him?”

“No. No, he didn’t. At least, I don’t think so.”

“Um, there can be no ‘I don’t think so’ in a ‘Did he hurt you’ question,” my friend tells me with concern in her voice.

“We kissed…”

“What?” Kate yells out.

“And he dry humped me to a mind-blowing orgasm….”

“WHAT?” She yells out ten times louder.
