“Thanks, man,” I take my glass of scotch and go over there.

Right when I am about to push the door open, I hear barely audible whispers and feel like an intruder, eves-dropping on my best friend. I turn around to leave when the voice of the other person in there catches my attention.

It’s not just a voice. I know it. I hear it every day.

Jennifer. She is in there with Dominic, and they are whispering.

Huh? Maybe they are planning a surprise for me, and I really shouldn’t ruin it, but curiosity has always been my downfall, so I stay back and listen closely.

Only…I wish I never had done it. Never.

“Jenn, fuck….” I hear Dom say to her.

“I know, I know. Just a bit more. Please,” she answered, and then I heard a sound that should have never existed between my best friend and my wife. A sound of two pairs of lips locking together in a passionate embrace. A kissing sound followed by a hungry moan.

I need to break into that room and see what the fuck is going on, but I’m rooted to the spot. My legs refuse to move, and my brain is short-circuiting. There is pressure in my chest, like someone is pushing a sharp, long knife through it. Slicing me open and draining every drop of my blood from my body until it’s pooled at my feet.

“Baby, you look so fucking sexy in that dress tonight, and it’s for him. It’s for my damn best friend,” Dom says.

“No,” Jenn is breathless. “No, Dom, it’s for you, always for you. Oh God, please…more,” she moans out, and at that same moment, Landon Locke, as you know him, died.

He seized to exist as a demon inside me awoke and tore through the office door, slamming it with brute force and locking eyes with my wife on Dominic’s desk, her dress hiked up, legs parted, and the fucking asshole whom I called my best friend for half of my life is ramming into her with his dick.

Jennifer yelps when she hears the door slam and tries to hide herself from me.

Me! Her husband! She is hiding her pussy from me!

Within a second, my eyes are filled with darkness and rage. The kind of rage that flips that healthy switch off and instead, bloody murder is flashing bright and high. My hands are locked tightly around Dominic’s neck, squeezing the life out of him.

“Landon…” he tries to whisper because I am crushing his windpipe. His face is red, his eyes are popping out, and I have no plans to stop.

My brain registers that Jennifer is yelling bloody murder, clawing at my back, and other guests from the party rush into the office, pulling me off the bastard who deserves to die right here, right now.

I never knew I possessed such power because it takes at least four people to peel me off him. Dominic collapses on the floor, hanging onto life by an inch. Jenn ran over to him, tears running down her face, and she tried to help him get up.

“Dom, baby, please, please,” the bitch pleads with him, and he coughs up.

That darkness, that feeling of deep betrayal, slams back into me when I see my wife on her knees in front of him, and I fly to them, grab her by the rich brown hair I loved so much and pull her hard toward the door into the hallway.

Jennifer is screaming from pain, and my employees are running after us, but I don’t care. I drop her to the floor with disgust written all over my face and go back to Dominic’s office, slamming the door locked behind me.

We are alone in the room.

Just him and I as he regains some consciousness and gets up from the floor.

“Mr. Locke in his true self,” he rasps to me.

“How long?” I grid out. “How long have you been fucking my wife?” The idiot has the audacity to laugh at me right now.

“You are fucking pathetic, Landon. She never loved you. She was always mine. Always. You thought you were better than me. Smarter, more handsome, always in with the ladies—even those I wanted—handing out your gifts or used-up scraps to me like Iwas some kind of a charity case for the mighty Landon Locke.” Dominic is unhinged, laughing like a madman. “I could never be the best with you around. Never first. So, I went ahead and took away one thing from you that mattered more than your own pretty self. Your Queen. I fucked her after your first date in college, and I kept fucking her all this time. I even fucked her before you on your wedding night. She always preferred my cock to yours. I ruined her for you, and my only regret is that it took you so long to find out because I was getting mighty tired of that used-up pussy.”

Present time…

“The red I saw before my eyes at that moment was so dark and dense that the next few minutes are still a haze to this day. I remember flying toward him with my fists raised high and crushing against his jaw.” I swallow hard, remembering the darkest day of my life. “I was pulled away from him by multiple people once again, but this time Dominic did not get up after I was done.” Lexi gasped. Her eyes were two huge green pools of shock as I was retelling her my story. Her hand is clutched tightly by her heart, and she hasn’t moved an inch since I started talking.

“D-did he die? Did you kill him?” She whispers.

“No, the bastard lived, but it’s not much of a life. He is a living vegetable; his brain suffered great trauma, bleeding, concussion, and more. So, he survived in terms of his heart kept beating, but the guy who I thought was my best friend was gone. And that haunts me to this day.” If only I could keep my temper under control, if only I would walk away, none of this would’ve happened. But the snake did bring it onto himself.
