“What the hell, Mandy?” he exclaimed.

I took three steps back as I raised my hands in surrender, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”

“You didn’t mean to hit me? Because I think you did, and I deserved it,” he finally admitted.

My eyebrows raised slightly as I eyed him curiously, “What do you mean?”

“I know I acted like a dick. I’m truly sorry. It doesn’t mean you should show up at my company and use it against me,” he replied.

“I didn’t come here to use anything against you. I want the job, to work here. You made it sound like you used me,” I said.

Roger scoffed, suddenly becoming defensive. “I used you? You wanted to have sex with me.”

I glared at him. One minute he sounded like someone with senses, and the next, he was a complete dickhead.

“Fuck you, Roger!” I cursed.

Roger glared at me, “I’m your boss. If you want to be employed here, I suggest you let go of the past and your anger. You need to focus on work and give me respect!”

“Respect my ass! You slept with me and ran away with your tail between your legs. I don’t respect men like that,” I snapped.

“Well, this job, this company, isn’t for you. I’ve had enough shit to deal with from women. I can now add you to that list. I’m so over it. I’ll call my secretary and ask her to find me someone else. You should leave and stop bothering me!”

I took a deep breath when I saw him reach for his phone. I know I’d gotten this job on merit. I couldn’t screw it up, especially since I’ve decided to take full responsibility for my baby.

“I’m sorry, you’re right. Let’s work and forget the past,” I said suddenly.

He dropped his phone and stared at me, “I’ll be watching you, Mandy. One wrong move, and you’re out.”

His threat offended me, but I nodded and smiled. “Of course, boss.”

Before I could say anything else, the door swung open. A tall, muscular man walked in.

“Mandy!” he exclaimed, surprised but thrilled.

I turned, and my heart skipped a beat. It was my brother, Stefan. I never expected to see him here. The shock on Roger’s face mirrored my astonishment.

“Stefan? What are you doing here?” I asked, unable to contain my curiosity.

Stefan grinned and walked over to me, giving me the biggest hug. “Roger is my best friend. I’m an investor in his company.”

I couldn’t help but feel surprise, joy, and a tinge of pride for my brother’s achievements. But, there was an underlying sense of unease. How would Stefan’s presence affect my working relationship with Roger? Would it complicate things further? Only time will tell.

Then I punched him hard. “Why didn’t you tell me about this? You just shut me out for years. It’s been six years, Stefan. Did you forget you had a sister?”

Stefan gave me a sad smile. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t in a good place after Dad died.”

I nodded. Stefan and I had the same mom but different dads. You’d never know because we didn’t look like siblings and hadn’t been around each other in six years. Despite that, we loved each other so much.

As Roger regained his composure, he cleared his throat. “Well, it seems we have quite the talented family here. Welcome to the team, Mandy. I’m glad to have you on board.”

“Thank you. I’ll set up my office now,” I said, walking away.

I watched as Mandy exited the office and breathed a sigh of relief. For a moment, I thought she would try creating a scene.

I wouldn’t say I liked leaving Mandy like that in Milan. I was avoiding her because I knew I cared for her. I didn’t want to get involved with any other woman, not after Jessica.

But now Mandy was here, ready to uproot my life. Why would she even move back to New York? Didn’t she say she was avoiding her stalker ex-boyfriend?
