“We’ve come to understand you’ve been able to tap into your powers a great deal,” Cameron states.

I glance at him and offer a nod. “Is this why I’m here? To talk about my powers?”

“No,” Davanna states. “We’re here to talk about your legacy.”

Ahh, there it is, the reason I’m here.

“Great power comes with great responsibility, Miss Osborn,” Axel states. “We’re here to ensure you’re aware of your boundaries and to not cross them.”

I raise my brows. “I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand. You have me here to let me know you’re aware of my heritage, the power I possess, and to let me know you’re watching me? And to keep myself in check?”

“If you wish to put it that way—” Carleigh starts, but I cut her off.

“There’s no other way to put it. Are you worried about what I might find out while at Blackthorn Academy?” I want to tell them I know my parent’s death was no accident.

No one answers and this tells me everything I need to know.

“Right. It’s time for me to leave,” I announce. “Release me,” I demand.

“We’re not done here,” Davanna corrects.

“Yes, we are, unless the group has something else to discuss?” I cross my arms over my chest and lift a brow. “Go on.”

“Regardless of what you think you know or what you’ve been told, the Council of Leaders is not corrupted,” Cameron stated.

“Who said you were,” I asked. When no one answers, again, I continue. “Well, let me offer you some suggestions of corruption.” I tick my first finger. “I’ve been attacked at the academy a few times.” Next finger. “My parents were killed in a staged car accident.” Next finger.

“Miss Osborn,” Davanna tries to interrupt.

I hold my hand up. “No, let me finish. The fact my family comes from royalty and I’m next to reign.” Next finger. “Reminding you, again, how death threats have been made on my life. Now, please tell me how the system is not corrupted.”

“You have no idea what you’re talking about,” Angela says. “Honestly, I believe you’re making this up. No one is after you. It’s all in your head to get attention.” She turns to her colleagues. “It’s a desperate plea to get attention by playing thewoe is mecard.”

I gasp, shock rocking me to my core. “How dare you try to gaslight me,” I exclaim. “Let me tell you something—”

A dark cloud billows from the floor and I leap back. Shayde’s voice echoes throughout the room as he appears. “Stop it! She’s not lying. Do you wish to see the wounds on her?”

“The ones she put there,” Angela states. “Yes, I see them. No one did thistoher.”

Behind the leaders a door opens and in steps a familiar face. I gasp and my eyes widen.

“Dafni Frangidi? Why are you here?” I can’t think of a single reason why this bitch would step foot in my session with the leaders.

Unless…

“Hi, mom,” Dafni calls out to Davanna.

I nod. “Of course.”

“Stop crying wolf,” Dafni spits. “It’s disgusting and looks pathetic on you.”

I shake my head, disgust filling every aspect of my being. There’s no way I could win this and come out victorious. “I’ve never lied about anything that’s happened to me or what I can do. I don’t understand the hatred and jealousy that comes from this one.” I motion toward Dafni.

She laughs. “Jealous? Of you?” Dafni giggles in a childlike way. “You wish you were as powerful as all of us up here.”

I can feel my body vibrate with rage and I want more than anything to release my powers on them, but that’s giving them exactly what they want: hate. They want to take me out for whatever reason. I can’t give that to them.

“Not all of us feel that way, Teagan Osborn.” An unfamiliar voice calls out from behind me.
