Wait, was Bibi apologizing to Lars? For what?

My blood ran cold as I pressed my ear against the door. Never once did I doubt Bibi’s decision-making on any of the previous episodes, but this Armand thing? There had to be a way to tell him to go shit in his wolf hat, appease the viewers, and let me move onto my dates with Lars before I asked him toclaimme. Just the thought sent a shiver down my spine, the energy pooling in my core.

Focus, Hannah.

“I think my brother might still be alive.” Lars’s voice was muffled through the door.

My mouth dropped. What? How? We hadn’t spent enough time together for him to tell me how his brother had passed, but if Lars was immortal, Leif should have been, too.

Right?

So the possibility was there.

The click of heels on concrete could only mean one thing—I was about to get busted defying the glittery goddess for a second time this morning. I quickly headed to the hair and makeup trailer, like this was business as usual.

“What did you have in mind for your big date tonight?” Marjorie, the makeup artist, asked. “I’m sure you’ll be wearing something fierce.”

“Was I supposed to go to wardrobe first?” Crap, my thoughts were a tangled mess after seeing Lars and overhearing half of a bombshell conversation. “I’m not sure what I’m wearing.”

Marjorie checked her smart watch. “Nope, you’re scheduled with us now.”

“Do whatever you want.” I smiled at her shock. “Make me sexy and irresistible.”

Marjorie raised her brows. They weren’t quite as sculpted as Bibi’s, but they were totally on point. “Your date tonight is with Armand, correct?”

I nodded.

“Okay.” From the tone of that, it was clear she was firmly Team Lars, but I simply closed my eyes and let her get to work.

Lars had wanted me to defy Bibi. But if Armand was this ancient, resurrected creature, and Leif was alive—the beast used to be king, no big deal—something really powerful was happening. Bibi and I definitely needed to get on the same page before the cameras rolled on this date so I knew what I was looking for, but I was excited to be a part of this mission.

Once my makeup was flawless and my hair equally amazing, I headed over to wardrobe.

Three outfits awaited me, and I chose shiny leggings and a fluttery boho burnout velvet top—all black, of course. There was such a thing as “upscale gothic cupcake.”

I took a deep breath and twisted in front of the mirror. I wasn’t nervous about impressing Armand. But I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach when there was no sign of Bibi, Marissa, or Tina outside my trailer. They should have been here by now, asking me how I was feeling.

“We’ll be headed back to the house.” Bibi appeared in a whirlwind, with her producers following after her. Even Bjorn, who was usually the epitome of calm, cool, and collected, seemed off.

What the heck had rattled a polar bear shifter?

“Is the date still on?” Not that I’d shed a tear if it wasn’t, but I had better ideas if we suddenly found ourselves free of plans tonight. Like going to show this amazing outfit off to Lars. Since we never saw each other on stage, it would be the first time he’d seen me dressed up.

Not that this outfit would last long.

But then I realized he might not even care…which was strangely freeing.

“Oh, it’s on,” Marissa said with a huff. “Armand’s been real cagey sharing details ahead of time. It’s made planning this date a logistical nightmare, because there is no plan—”

“We have a plan,” Bibi insisted.

“Yes, we have a plan, but the problem is, Armand has his own.” Tina rolled her eyes.

“Of course he does. So what’s our plan?” I asked as I climbed into the van. “It seems like we’re not all on the same page, and to accomplish…whatever it is that we’re trying to accomplish, we need to be.”

“We’re meeting him in The Village.” Bibi turned around from the passenger’s seat. “The problem is, we don’t know much about Armand or his pack, as Tina said. His background check was both vague and specific enough to pass our initial check, but some major red flags have been raised. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have you go on this date. But there’s a reason he’s here, and we have a very important weapon at our disposal. The whole world is watching. Whatever he has planned won’t work like it has in the past.”

“What’s our goal?” I asked.
