A knock on the door startled all of us. Marissa poked her head in. “Hannah’s ready for you.”

Bibi looked at me. “Are we changing anything about tonight in light of that information? She’s planned a very public date. We have our best beasts working for us tonight. But this is a twist we didn’t see coming.”

I was the best beast they had. None of us had to say it. I’d be on high alert, making sure no ancient shifter laid a paw on her, besides me. But I’d be overwhelmed, outmatched in an unfamiliar setting.

Completely smitten with and conflicted about this human. Wondering if I was doing the right thing for any of us.

But I couldn’t stay away from her. Even if I wanted to.

“We make tonight amazing for Hannah,” I said. “But we need to figure out how to keep her friends safe immediately. And if this hunch is right, Calista too.”

Hannah

How was I feeling? Someone was bound to ask, since this wasThe Mating Game. But ever since Marissa went to retrieve Lars from the dressing room, she and Tina had been murmuring into their headsets. Avoiding eye contact with me.

Zoe and Destiny were taking up space in my head rent free, but I refused to give in to any negative energy.

So back to the question. I was feeling like it was about freaking time we do this. Tonight would be amazing simply because I got to introduce Lars to my favorite band.

The door opened, and I forgot to breathe as Lars walked out. Okay, any disappointment I had over his human form had totally disappeared. This man was gorgeous. His hair flowed down his back, and that beard was the only remnant of his soft fur. He wore an untucked plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up and faded jeans that left nothing to my very vivid imagination.

If I was worried about him lacking in the human equipment department, I could let go of that shit effective immediately.

But there was nothing human about the way he came for me, like I was his prey in the very best way. His movement was fluid, pure beast. My heart pounded as I reached for his hands. He pulled me in for a hug.

“You smell amazing,” I said. On any other date, I would’ve totally cringed at my very own brand of awkward. But with Lars, I could be myself. And his scent was so refreshing. It was pure nature. Grass on a hot summer day and sunbaked stone.

“You look incredible.” His words had a growl to them, and before I had a chance to respond, he took my face in my hands, and then his lips were on mine. This man knew exactly how to turn my knees to jelly. He ran his tongue along the seam of my lips, and I welcomed him inside. His rough palm moved up my bare arm and moaned against my mouth.

And his cock was hard against my hip.

To think, moments ago I’d been worried he wasn’t that into me anymore.

This version of Lars was checking all my boxes. Maybe I’d only been disappointed with his shift because humans had let me down in the past. But this man was different.

It took everything I had to pull myself away from the kiss. “If we don’t stop, we’ll need the VIP suite at the chalet immediately.”

He grinned, and his lips were slightly swollen from kissing me. “What’s wrong with that?”

“I’ve been looking forward to this date ever since the night you rescued me.” I smoothed my shirt. “I want to prove there’s more to us than this insane sexual attraction.”

“Maybe we need to prove it all over again now that I’m human.”

His suggestion had my lady parts pounding like a double bass drum at speed metal concert, and my heart was definitely in the mosh pit. “You must know what they say about anticipation?”

He cocked a brow. “That it will make a man do wild things?”

“That’s not how the saying goes, but I do like your interpretation.” Again I had to force myself away from him. “Ready to head out?”

“I’m excited to go to this concert.” He laced his fingers between mine and we headed to the van.

“Do you have any questions about it before we get there?” I wasn’t sure what Bibi or the rest of the crew had told him.

He shook his head. “Wouldn’t even know what to ask.”

“Okay, so it will be loud and crowded. And people might do a weird dance circle that looks like a fight, but it’s called moshing, and it’s their happy place. Nothing to be concerned about.”
