“You should have stayed and watched,” Beau said, his big body leaning on the door, keeping me from leaving.

“Yeah, Beau,” I said. “Really riveting content. I am sure Dylan from finance appreciated how you were having a whole conversation about paperwork while he was sucking your dick.”

“Don’t pretend you’re not curious,” he said. “I know you’ve heard about my dick.”

“Yeah, Beau,” I said. “They’re talking about your dick on the streets. It’s in the newspapers. I’m getting reports of your dick by passenger pigeon.”

He didn’t look abashed at all, because he was one cocky motherfucking diva.

“If I wanted to, I could fucking humbleyouwith my dick,” he said, crossing those big toned arms over his chest.

“Have you ever been with a woman, Beau?” I asked.

He cocked his head at me. “No.”

I choked out a laugh, then covered it with a cough. “Then you’re not going to be humblingshit, Beau,” I said, turning on my heel and leaving through the back. He couldn’t coverallthe exits.

ELOWYN

Iwas putting up posters for some upcoming events at Heavenly Lights when Beau came up behind me.

“These ideas are stupid,” he said. “Fantasy and Sci-Fi Night? Jane Austen brunch? I’m not going to do this shit.”

“You have to,” I said.

He stepped forward and grabbed my hair, pressing his body on mine. I was trapped against the wall, the posters falling on the ground beside me.

“Let me go,” I said furiously, struggling in his arms, but he was way too strong.

“Stop fucking shit up,” he said.

My heart was hammering in my chest. I had dated my last boyfriend for a year, but I didn’t think I’d ever been as close to him as it felt I was to Beau right then, his big arm flattening me against the wall, his knee on the back of my thigh, pinching my skin. I felt as trapped as a bug, the sensation of being totally overpowered suddenly making my skin prickle and my insides feel liquid.

“Get off me or I’ll put your wigs through the paper shredder,” I said.

“You’re just as fucking nuts,” he snarled, and he let me go then. My scalp was prickling from where he had yanked on my hair. I turned to the nearby table and grabbed my cup of coffee. In a rage, I threw it at him. Unfortunately, it wasn’t hot, but at least it landed all over his tight white shirt.

He whirled around and his eyes were furious. I turned to run, but he pounced on me, grabbing my T-shirt with one hand, twisting it tight. With the other hand he turned to the fancy water dispenser we always had in the hallways. You know, the kind with lemons and shit to make the water boutique.

Beau picked up the entire water dispenser, and upended the contents over my head, the sticky liquid cascading all over my long braid and T-shirt.

“Oh, you asshole!” I said wrathfully.

He twisted my shirt even further as I tried to wipe the water from my eyes.

“Don’t mess with me, Elowyn,” he hissed in my ear. “You won’t win.”

I kicked his ankle as he left, but he didn’t even turn.

Fuck, was he ever an asshole. I felt another urge to quit again, but my urge to get even with Beau was much stronger.

I took out my cellphone and I called the local college theater department.

Then I hired a bunch of theater students to come to the drag show tonight and make sure Maria Von Fapp got the most applause.

Maybe it was a waste of money, and maybe I had just spent way too much of my first two weeks’ salary.
