“Shoot.”

“What’s up with the not being allowed to talk about religion?”

“Are you a religious man?” Tom asked in return. “Will that be a problem for you?”

“Nope. My family is, but I’m not.”

“Phew!” Brian interrupted as he wiped his forehead with a tissue. “I almost had a heart attack.”

“No heart attacks on my time, Brian,” Tom interjected and then he turned to face Matt. “The producers thought it would be best not to have any sort of religious talk between you and the ladies until you’re down to the final three.”

“What if one of the final three is super religious?”

“If you are opposed to that, then she would be easy to let go,” Tom laughed.

Matt nodded his head in agreement. He wasn’t even sure his heart could fall in love with someone in two weeks, but he was sure that if one of the women was super religious, she wouldn’t be interested in him.

“Let’s get down to business,” Brian uttered. “I’m the liability manager, sit!”

“What does that mean?” Matt asked as he continued to stand instead of sitting. Matt decided to fold his arms across his chest in hopes of Brian reading his non-verbal displeasure of being told to sit.

“That means all date ideas need to be run by me first… which includes all group dates and one-on-one dates. I prefer two days' notice before the date so my team can plan accordingly.”

“What date ideas are automatically no?”

“Scuba diving, surfing, bungy jumping, rock climbing, motorbikes… of any kind, etc. If it’s dangerous… the answer is no.”

“Which kind of dates would you prefer?” Matt smirked. “Picnics in the park?”

Brian squinted his eyes and peered at Matt. “You’re all the same!” he uttered under his breath.

“And what does that mean?”

“Brian!” Tom interrupted. “Matt is The Host and we will do everything in our power to help him find his love.

“Matt,” Tom turned to face him. Eventually, Matt turned to face Tom. “After you have gotten to know the women, you come up with a date idea and we will do our best to make that idea come true. We also want everyone to be safe on their dates, so please take that into account.”

Matt nodded and then asked Tom, “What’s up with him?”

“He needs more coffee!” Tom blurted as he tugged on Matt’s arm and pulled him through a door and into a shared office space. “This is my area. Not as private as Brian’s, but you can sign the contract here.”

A few seconds later, the same stack of papers that was on Brian’s desk was now on Tom’s.

“I read the contract that was emailed to me, but I’d like to read the physical one before I sign it. It might take me a while, so I’d appreciate the time for me to do so.”

“No worries. I’ll leave you alone. Just let my office manager know when you’re finished and she’ll ring me.”

After Tom left his office, Matt started with page one and read each page slowly. After Brian’s weird interaction with him, Matt didn’t feel inclined to sign without re-reading the contract.

Forty minutes later, Matt felt confident nothing had been altered in the contract, so he signed in all the required places and notified Tom’s office manager he was finished.

“How are you feeling?” Tom asked as he reentered his cubicle.

“A little overwhelmed, but I’m also excited.”

“Well, I would hope so!” Tom chuckled. “It’s not every day a man gets to have twenty-five beautiful ladies at his beck and call.”

“Talking about the beautiful ladies,” Matt smiled mischievously, “When do I get to see their pictures?”
