Liza pointed to where she wanted us.

“Wow. You’re here five minutes, and they’ve already made Mal creepier for you.” Tarryn grinned at me, and I smiled back, doing my best to hide my concern.

I didn’t want her to consider me creepy. Hopefully, doing this scene with me wouldn’t freak her out. I did follow her around a lot, but it was only because I liked her and wanted to make sure nothing happened to her. She was alone on the other side of the world from the only person who—allegedly—kept her safe. It wasn’t the same. Right? I wasn’t like this man.

“Remember not to pay attention to the cameras. Focus on me for this part. They don’t need you looking off into the distance or anything, so try and make this more like a normal conversation.” She glanced over at Liza, who I hadn’t realized was listening.

“Like a normal conversation, except try to turn on the charm. He’s supposed to be trying to sort of scary seduce her, not talk about the weather.”

I nodded. “And I’m supposed to be pushy about it?”

Liza smiled. “Yes, exactly. Let’s see what we have to work with.”

Tarryn went from looking thoughtful to being totally focused on me. Her eyes and glorious red hair went perfectly with the leather warrior garb they’d dressed her in. The hilt of her sword peeked up over her shoulder, reminding me she wasn’t a damsel in distress and never had been, no matter how I tended to treat her.

As soon as the cameras were ready, I strode to her, ignoring everyone else, my gaze fastening to hers as soon as she looked my way. I didn’t slow down until I was in her space, forcing her to back a step and then two. Her back bumped the wall, her eyes went wide, and I gave her one of my most charming smiles.

“Swordswoman.”

“What do you want?”

“You.”

“I have things to attend to. I don’t have time for men who think they are entitled to any woman they fancy.”

“Are you saying you don’t fancy me?” I let my eyes glide down her body then back up to her face, doing my best to rivet her in place with my gaze. “Liar.”

She pushed at my chest, but I didn’t budge even though I was supposed to fall back a step. I put my hand against the wall beside her, using the arm farther from the camera so I didn’t block her face from view. I cocked my head.

“The pulse in your neck betrays you.”

“Leave me be, male. Not every woman has all day to lie abed.”

I turned my smile wolfish. “All day?” I drawled. “You see? I put the merest hint of bed sport into that pretty head, and already you imagine spending hours there with me.”

She raised her hand to slap me—I was supposed to grab her wrist, and she had committed to the motion before realizing belatedly I had no intention of stopping her. The force of the slap rocked my head to the side, but she didn’t ruin the scene’s momentum by looking shocked.

My blood sang in my ears. I gave her a slow, dirty smile.

“A spirited woman is worth her weight in gold.” I grabbed her wrist and spun her around, twisting it behind her back and shoving her face firstagainst the wall. It wasn’t in the script, but it felt right. She gasped and tried to kick, but I was too close for it to do any damage. I leaned in and whispered in her ear. “I think you’ll be traveling with me for a while, Red.”

“How do you know my name!”

“Tostan sent me to put you out of his misery,” I growled, “but you’re far too enticing to waste.”

That was supposed to be the end of the scene but no one moved.

“Cut!” Liza called after a stunned moment.

Tarryn and I were both panting. My dick was hard as hell, and I wished I could clear the room and fuck Tarryn against the wall. She was so much fun to manhandle.

“Holy shit!” Liza murmured.

A couple of people wolf whistled.

“You can let me go now.” Tarryn’s cheeks were pink, and her eyes shone.

“Now I can see why you keep him around.”
