Now though…the crying, the arguing, the talking…those were the signs of people who not only loved each other, but were also willing to put in the work to stay together.

Unfortunately.

It was probably going to be much more difficult to steal Valor’s wife when I could hear his passion for her in his voice.

That was good for them. Not so good for me.

On my flight, I paid for internet so I could monitor the situation.

“Hi.” An attractive, well-heeled young woman took the seat next to me after checking her ticket. She looked familiar—possibly famous, albeit not famous enough to merit having a private plane. Or maybe, like me, she wasn’t self-important enough to bring that much extra pollution into the world for her own convenience. I had a niece and nephew to consider.

“Hello.”

She settled in, then glanced over at me. Her eyes widened slightly, as though I were noteworthy.

“Flying alone today?”

Shit. Small talk. I despised it. Years of my life had been spent making small talk as one part of my job—although it was more enjoyable than the part of it where I sucked off old men or took it in the ass. It was hard to look eager and half in love with men I fantasized about murdering.

“Yes.” I tried to think of something only slightly interesting to say but came up with nothing.

“Traveling for work?”

“Retired.”

She shut the book she’d started to open. “You’re retired? You look like you’re in your twenties.”

“I am.”

What did this woman want from me?

“Your wife is a lucky woman.”

I’d been about to say I wasn’t married, but realized that was what she wanted to hear.

Yuck. My body belonged to Tarryn, and only Tarryn. Fucking Valor was something I did to intimidate him and undermine his relationship with her. The fact that he was hot and irritating was irrelevant.

Arching a haughty brow at her, I snorted. “I’m bored of this conversation. Please refrain from speaking to me.”

I ignored her shocked expression and put in my earbuds, opening the spyware app on the phone I’d bought on the way to the airport. What had I missed while I was boarding?

Tarryn was in the shower, her phone in a waterproof holder so they could keep talking. Was she washing me off?

That just wouldn’t do.

I’d have to plan another visit soon.

Chapter Fourteen: Valor

[Me] I love you, my Nymph. Have a good day. Don’t forget you have a stunt double for a reason

She wouldn’t be awake for a while, but I wanted her to know I was thinking about her. If nothing else, my stupid, childish meltdown after Loïc’s visit had brought us closer together as a couple.

I missed her like hell.

When the company I worked for had expanded, and the new, bigger office opened in LA, it’d seemed like a great career move. Then, when we were packed and ready to go, Tarryn’s agent had called about a show she’d auditioned for and given up on.

The only reason she’d auditioned in the first place was because it was filming not far outside Prague, so she could stay close to home. To me.
