“No, he’s got the kid with him too,” the twin replied.

“She’s not going to leave without them,” he said, hanging his head before taking a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I think we shouldn’t tell her…”

“Tell me what?” I stilled at Katarina’s voice, seeing her coming down the stairs dragging a man behind her by her arm.

We all stared at her, but I knew Zev, Lucien and I were checking for injuries, wondering who this asshole was. I also had pride threatening to explode from my chest because she looked completely unharmed.

“Fuck you, Ryder,” she snapped. “You think I would leave them?”

She let the man fall the rest of the way down as she slowly followed him. Zev stopped him from rolling too far from us, while he held his hand out for her. She took it, stepping on the guy to get to Ryder.

“Hello, Ryder,” she smiled up at him sweetly.

“Hello, Kat.” He looked down at her with his eyes widening. “I see the binding spell has been broken, you look radiant.”

She rolled her eyes at him. “Quit being a pussy, how do we get my sister and my niece or nephew back?”

“He’s got way too many people, Kat.” The twin came up to us. “He has Clodius’ brother with him.”

I felt her fear, but her expression was unchanging.

“I thought he died?” she whispered.

“We need to get the fuck out of here now!” The other twin came running in and another explosion sounded, making the windows shatter.

The twin that was closest to Katarina grabbed her, protecting her with his own body as they fell onto the floor along with everyone else. Another bomb went off before I could get out and I heard Katarina yelling.

“Soren!” Ryder yelled.

“On it!” he yelled, as he left out the door so quickly that I barely saw him.

Another boom sounded, but it wasn’t as loud or close to us. Lucien helped Katarina while the dust settled around us.

“How many are out there?” Zev growled, checking on Katarina.

He cupped her face, then laid a hand on her stomach.

“I’m fine,” she said, rolling her eyes, but she still had a tenderness in them.

“How fast can you run?” I asked the other vampire.

“Not to brag but I can do a mile in about thirty-four seconds,” he smirked.

“Good, because I’m going stop time and you have about a minute for a head count,” I said, pulling for my power.

“I can do a lot in a minute,” he smirked, before he took off.

It had been so long since I had stopped time to this magnitude, but since I had gotten my magic back, I felt the boost in power made it attainable. It was actually quite easy to make the group freeze.

“I think we should take this time to get you out of here, Katarina,” Ryder said, but I already knew my firecracker was going to chew his ass out.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake I’m not leaving. We get them out, kill Caston and we can all move on from this night,” Katarina snapped at him.

“It’s not going to be that simple,” he argued with her. “You don’t know what this family is capable of and the amount of power he has behind it.”

“You expect me to leave my sister, father and my niece and nephew?” She got in his face.

“No, I expect you to leave so that we can do our job and not have to worry about you.” He growled at her.
