KATARINA

Abody pushed me to the ground as the sound of bullets echoed in the library. Glass shattered as Aeon protected me with his own body. Serena was next to me, huddling close to us looking through her bag. Once the bullets stopped, Aeon’s weight lifted off me, giving me a chance to look over at Zev and Lucien.

“Get both of them!” Clodius yelled.

A few men were coming towards us as I grabbed a few knives, heating them up with my fire and throwing the knives at them, while Serena used a pendant to make a gust of wind to throw the men back. Aeon shifted, tearing into one man as I tried to drown out the awful sound of bones breaking and tearing.

A loud bang exploded. Seeing a man to my left, I threw a hot knife before running over to him to pick up the gun and spotting two more men coming up to Lucien and Zev.

I shot both of them in the head, shooting another man on the second floor when a man pointed his gun at Serena.

“No!” I yelled, seeing Aeon tackle her to save her. I took the man out quickly, running to Serena and Aeon. When I heard Clodius yelling, it made me look over to see Lucien and Zev ripping his arms off his body.

I reached Serena and Aeon. Neither of them had moved, making my heart stop.

“Aeon,” I said, touching his shoulder with a knot in my throat.

He groaned, rolling off of Serena. There was blood everywhere and I didn’t know whose it was.

“Who is bleeding?” Zev kneeled by them, but no one responded.

I was frozen in fear. They couldn’t leave me. No.

“Kat,” Serena whispered, and I fell to my knees beside her. “Dammit, I thought I had more time.”

She coughed blood, splattering it all over me.

“No, Serena,” I whispered.

“Mr. Potter!” Zev yelled, pushing a piece of cloth into my hands. “Pressure.”

There was so much blood I didn’t even know where she was hurt.

“I have so much to tell you,” Serena coughed, raising her hand up to my face. “I brought what you needed.”

Tears gathered in my eyes making it hard to see her. Someone grabbed the cloth from my hands.

“Serena,” I cried, grabbing her hand from my face and holding it to my chest. “You’re ok.”

“This was always going to happen.” She coughed as my tears finally ran down my face, I could see her clearly. She was pale, her lips were almost white. “Is Aeon ok?”

I looked over feeling like crap that I hadn’t checked on him.

“I'm fine, Kitten,” Aeon said, looking like he was in a lot of pain.

“They love you,” she whispered. “I was hoping they did, but I can see now they would… they would die for you.”

She coughed, making blood spurt from her mouth. Mr. Potter appeared on the side of Serena, checking her wounds quickly.

“You’re going to be fine,” I reassured her.

“This is my stop, Katarina. I was all but sure that I would die, and this means…” She coughed again.

I looked at Mr. Potter for reassurance she was going to be ok.

“She has too many wounds, she is losing blood too fast,” he said with remorse in his voice.

“No… No,” I cried trying to put pressure while I thought of something we could do. “You can’t leave me, Serena.”
