“You can put me down.” Katarina’s voice was soft.

“I got it, Kat.” The man who was holding her made me want to maul him.

His voice gave away the familiarity between them and I hated it. He slowed his run when he got close enough, gauging the situation. He looked at us with his green eyes, smirking when we all growled again.

“You sure you want to go back in?” He looked down at her.

“Soren, don’t make this worse.” She slapped his chest. “Behave and walk me through.”

“I was just waiting for reinforcements,” he said, looking behind him when another man who looked exactly like himstopped at the barrier with the wolf. The twins smelled like vampires and then there was Katarina’s sister.

I couldn’t help the growl that escaped when I saw her, all I wanted to do was snarl at her and keep her conniving ways away from Katarina. Judging by her expression she tried to get Katarina to leave. She looked at all of us with suspicion and a little hate.

“We all need to hold on to each other,” the wolf said.

Before I could protest, they walked forward. We took a few steps back, I was getting ready to wolf out at the man who was holding Katarina and her sister when a body collided against my own.

“Please don’t hurt them, they are here to help,” she whispered, tightening her arms around my neck.

She calmed my wolf, who was so desperate to lash out and spill blood. But before I could respond Aeon and Lucien surrounded us.

“Wait,” I pushed them away, taking off the sweater she had on, my wolf hated that she smelled like someone else. I threw it towards the group, when my brothers threw their arms around us.

“Kit Kat.” Lucien sounded like he was still in pain.

“Kitten,” Aeon purred, sounding relieved.

“Guys,” Katarina sobbed, turning towards Lucien to kiss him and then Aeon.

She looked at me, then at my lips. I knew what she expected, and as much as I wanted to kiss her, the reality of actually losing her stopped me. Kissing was an intimate act that I was waiting to do with my mate. It was a stupid idea but everyone else was insignificant before her. I still couldn’t give that last piece of myself when the possibility of losing her was a cruel reality. Deep down I knew she was mine, but I wasn’t going to survive without her.

Lucien pulled her towards him again, kissing all over her face and making her squeal when he pulled her out of my arms. I tightened my grip, not wanting to let her go but Lucien growled at me, and I knew I had no right to hog her. She wasn’t my mate…yet.

Someone cleared their throat, making me glare at the group who I really wanted to just throw out, but I knew they were here for a reason. The wolf and I stared each other down, our dominance coming out to play. I was used to being the stronger wolf—most of the time—this guy was just about as strong as we were. My wolf hated that we were evenly matched size-wise but I had magic, and he didn’t.

“Here are some clothes. I have some refreshments in the living room.” Mr. Potter appeared handing out clothes to us and the other wolf.

He grumbled a thank you as we all put clothes on; Lucien handed off Katarina to Aeon who helped her into his shirt, and he walked to the living room. Turning his back on the group made me nervous but I knew it was a subtle power move. He wasn’t afraid of them.

“Come on, a storm is on its way and the curse is going to call to us soon.” Lucien motioned for everyone to follow him.

The vampires followed with no hesitation, but the Belladonna looked like she had swallowed shit and wanted nothing to do with us. I motioned to her to follow them as she eyed me with suspicion.

“Come on, Serena,” the wolf said, as he slid a hand around her waist, pulling her against him like a lover would.

“I don’t trust him,” she whispered to him.

“I’m sure he doesn’t trust you either, I mean your family did curse him,” he said matter of factly, making me like him.

“Fine, but they mated with her. How the hell am I supposed to trust them after that? Are they just manipulating her to get what they want?” Her voice grew in volume.

“No, Serena, as wolves we don’t take mates for shits and giggles, for us our mate is our love, our life, our whole fucking world,” he whispered in her ear. “They live for her now, they don’t want to break the spell for them anymore. I can guarantee you it’s all for her.”

“Is that what it would have meant for us?” Her voice was so soft that I thought I misheard.

“Yes,” he said, looking at her.

“My family…” Serena started to say something, but we arrived at the entrance, silencing her as we all huddled close.
