“No,” I said out loud.

She glared at me before she pushed away from Lucien.

“Can you give me a moment?” Her voice was innocent, but I stared at her wondering what she was up to. I shook my head again, so she knew I wasn't on board with whatever she was going to do.

“Sure, whatever you need, just let us know,” Aeon said, as they looked at her walk away from us.

“I thought she was going to do it, for a moment it felt like the curse was trying to break,” Aeon said, running his hand down his face, wincing when he rubbed his burned skin.

“Me too, it felt like something big was going to happen and then it just went to shit,” Lucien said, looking at Aeon and inspecting his face.

“The magic felt like Vivienne’s,” I added, looking at Katarina walking around the destruction of the room. She leaned down, picked up a bag, and looked inside of it.

“I thought it did too. It felt very familiar, I almost panicked thinking something worse was going to happen,” Lucien said, glancing at Katarina who had moved away from the spot she picked up the bag.

I studied her as she glanced back at us, my intuition made me wonder what the hell she was doing. A vial of salt was taken out of the bag, and I knew she made the decision to do what I had refused to do to help her.

“Katarina, no!” I yelled, getting up to stop her.

She finished a small circle, whispering a small incantation erecting a barrier around her.

“What’s going on?” I heard behind me when I reached her circle, laying my hand on it to feel the power behind it.

It was solid. Unless we could rummage up a counter spell there would be no use in doing so. It would take too much time.

“Kitten, what are you doing?” Aeon’s voice was unsure.

“Kit Kat, what's going on?” Lucien put his hand on the barrier.

“I’m sorry, but this is the only way,” she whispered.

“Katarina,” I growled. “This is stupid.”

“What the fuck is going on?” Aeon snarled.

“Baby, stop whatever you're doing, it's not worth it.” Lucien sounded panicked.

“It's the only way,” she cried into her hands. “If I break the bond, then you won’t live in agony, and you can focus…”

“That’s fucking bullshit.” Aeon hit the barrier. “Drop this now, Katarina.”

“Aeon you know I’m right, I don’t want you stuck here,” she hiccupped. “I have to do this.”

“Kit Kat, don’t do this,” Lucien's voice cracked.

Katarina looked at me with indecision in her eyes. We had to keep going so she didn’t do this.

“This is stupid, I told you…”

“You knew?” Aeon pushed me by the shoulder.

“She mentioned…”

“Why didn’t you say anything?” He growled, stepping closer to me.

“I didn’t think she was going to go through with it,” I said, pushing him back.

“It doesn’t matter, you still should have said something, we could have done something, anything.” He pushed me back.
