Kira’s lips part in surprise.

“I’ve loved you for months now. And I pushed it away because of…all the reasons I could think of. But I can’t pretend anymore. Especially now that you’re having my baby.” I can barely believe those words are coming out of my mouth. “You’re having my baby. And I want to give both of you all of my love. Every bit of it.”

She tilts her head to the side, considering me with a small smile. I lift her hands to my mouth and kiss them softly, taking it as a good sign that she doesn’t draw away.

“Please, I’ll do anything,” I add.

“If you’re willing to go slow with me, then I think I can fall in love with you too.”

Her eyes shine like diamonds. That’s just how precious she is to me.

“Absolutely. As long as it takes. I want you to be as confident in me as I am in you. Because not a moment goes by that I’m not filled with the love I have for you, Kira. I promise.”

“Then make me feel it, Orlie,” she whispers.

I lean in, ready to kiss her, but Kira has other plans. She pulls our joined hands away from my face toward her stomach.

My heart beats wildly up until the moment she lays my palms against her belly. The slight roundness of her stomach feels like the whole world in my hands. Because itismy world. My baby. And the woman I love.

Kira cups her hands over mine. “The baby is the size of a pear now.”

I laugh, but the laugh is split with tears.

“Wow.” I trace my thumb back and forth against the swell cloaked in black. I’d love to see it bare, look at the way her stomach is starting to change. But one thing at a time. I can be patient. For Kira, I would wait until the end of time.

“Wow,” I repeat.

“Don’t cry, Orlie.”

There’s no helping the tears. I beam, slide my hands up from her belly to her face, putting them on either side of her face. “I want to kiss you.”

Kira doesn’t answer with words, instead closing the space between us and kissing me.

Warmth blooms across my face, enveloping my whole body in Kira Solace sunshine.

“Thank you,” I murmur between kisses. “Thank you for –” I touch her waist. “Everything.”

“You’re ridiculous, just kiss me.”

I can oblige that easily. Our lips slide together, tongues lapping at the familiar places we haven’t been able to visit in months. “You’ll come back to work in the office, yes?”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Fine, that’s fine,” I say with a ragged breath. More kisses. “I’d like you back, though. From a personal standpoint.”

“I’d like an office with a window.”

“Well, that can be arranged.”

Kira grins and kisses me. “Isn’t that favoritism?”

“Is it favoritism if everyone already knows who my favorite is?”

With a long sigh, Kira nestles her face into my neck. I cradle her there. Our bodies feel different pressed together. Her small swell will soon change, making this feel even more different. Except I intend to be there every step of the way. Every change will be minute because I won’t have missed any of it.

This is my second chance at the life I thought I’d have ten years ago. And I intend not to fuck it up even a little bit.

“You’re sweaty,” Kira murmurs.
