“Hey.” Adrian dropped the lube onto the mattress and held the wrapped condom up for Eric to see. “Yes or no?”

Eric’s gaze went dark, a tilt to his mouth that Adrian couldn’t quite read. “Green light on my side.”

“Me too.” Adrian smiled. “So?”

“So no, we don’t need it.” Eric hesitated for a tangible instant. “I’ve never … you know. Without.”

He…

Oh.

“But,” Adrian said slowly, processing. “Between the two of us, you’re the one who’s actually been in a relationship. Multiple ones.”

“Two that lasted around a month. One that lasted half a year of mostly long-distance, followed by the guy walking out after a week of semi-moving in with me. I’m no expert.” Eric’s tone was dry, tinged with faint self-deprecation. It made Adrian want to give Lucas a little shake even though surprisingly, he’d kind of liked the bloke. Otherthan the whole having-dated-Eric thing, that was. Because apparently, Adrian was the jealous type—who’d have thought.

He covered Eric’s body with his own and eased him into a soft, gentle kiss. When they separated, it was just enough for Adrian to meet Eric’s eyes. “You realise,” he said quietly, “that you pretty much moved in with me before Christmas, right? So we’re doing better already.”

Eric’s smile started around the corners of his eyes and spread until it took over his entire face. “This doesn’t even compare.”

I love you.

Kitschy? Maybe. But also, to hell with it.

“I love you.” The words felt big in the small space, so Adrian followed them up with a wink. “Now will you write more songs about me?”

“Say that again and I’ll write you a dozen.” The truth, disguised as a joke—that’s what it sounded like.

Adrian bumped their noses together, and Christ, he was turning into a character from a sappy rom-com, wasn’t he? Good thing he was sufficiently secure in himself to handle the threat to his masculinity.

“Like I said, I do aim to inspire.” With a deliberately cheesy grin, he reached for a pillow to raise Eric’s arse up. Eric complied with fluid ease that lit a gentle fire in Adrian’s belly. He settled back between Eric’s thighs to line himself up. With slow, careful precision, he pushed in. Sparks danced through his vision as he lowered himself, mouths meeting in an open, wet kiss, tongues clashing.

When Adrian pulled back, they were both breathing harshly. “I love you,” he repeated, and timed it right as he thrust back in. Eric’s back arched to meet the motion, his head tipped into the pillow to expose the column of his throat. The love bite was a dark smudge against his skin. Adrian dragged thick air into his lungs and lifted one of Eric’s legs up onto his shoulder.Deeper, the soft creak of the bed frame a delayed echo to each thrust.

“Look at me,” Adrian murmured.

Eric did, his heavy gaze at odds with the teasing quirk to his mouth. “That all you’ve got?”

It reminded Adrian of the first time they’d hit the slopes together—his own surprise at how Eric was a far better skier than he’d let on, and far more competitive too. “Is this really a ‘wanna race’ type of situation?” Adrian asked, and Eric’s laugh vibrated between them.

“Maybe I didn’t think this all the way through.”

“Maybe you didn’t,” Adrian agreed—and pulled out most of the way, only to roll his hips forward in a single, smooth move that punched a moan out of Eric.

“Or maybe I did,” he said, voice rougher than usual. “God. Do that again? Also…” Lower, almost lost to the rustle of sheets. “Love you.”

Gravity tugged Adrian forward. With each thrust, he was acutely aware of the noises that fell between them, each quiver of Eric’s body under him. Eric’s nails dug into Adrian’s back to urge him closer, pressing crescents into his skin that might see him through the evening—dinner service, fingertips brushing in passing.

Adrian’s pulse stuttered in his chest and ears. Too soon, and he crashed their mouths together, hips moving in tiny circles as he held himself up with one hand. He managed to wedge the other between their bodies and curl his fingers around Eric’s, already working to bring himself off.Come on, come on.Eric trembled under him, and Adrian knew the signs now, knew how Eric’s breathing sped up, the way his eyes grew hazy and he raised himself up to meet each thrust. Adrian knewEric.

Mine.

The thought brought him to the very brink of an edge he’d barely realised he was nearing. It threatened to wash over him like the tide—an inevitable pull that he tried to fight. Just a little longer, a little more, take Eric with him.

“C’mon, Adrian.” Eric tightened around him. “Fill me up.”

Game over.

Adrian clung to Eric, a universe exploding in his mind. Tasted salt where his lips pressed against Eric’s throat. A subtle trace of Eric’s aftershave, rhythmic sounds as Eric’s hips kept hitching, the whispering slide of his hand over his cock. Right, yeah.
