I’ve been dying to ask her what's happening with her and Eddie and if she’s still messing with Jeremiah, but I’ve been too busy with wedding planning and trying to mind my own business. Since we’re alone, now is the perfect time to be nosey.

“About brunch last week,” I begin.

She raises her hand and shakes her head as if she’s been waiting for me to broach the topic. “When I tell you my love life is complicated, it’s complicated. Please believe me!”

“Are you saying that you’re seeing Jeremiah and Eddie? Like at the same time?”

“They both are good men,” she quips.

I can feel knots tying up in my stomach as it quivers. “And you didn’t answer my question. Are you dealing with them both at the same time?” I repeat.

“Yes. I am.”

“Jas!”

“Wait. Before you think I’m some type of bitch, just know one of them I’ve been trying to get with for years, but he’s kept me at arm’s length because I was competing with a ghost. Then, I finally move on, find someone interested in me, and boom! Without being prepared, I walk into the kitchen with my mouthwatering for some red velvet waffles and hear him proclaiming to everyone at the table that he’s in love with me.”

“That was a surprise for us all.” Just as it’s a surprise for me to hear that she’s had feelings for Eddie for years.

Jasmine digs around in her purse until she finds her makeup mirror. “Eddie’s admission took me for a loop. It’s amazing how Eddie wants to profess his undying love now that I have something going on with Jeremiah. I don’t know if I can even take Eddie seriously.”

“Both men are completely into you. And sandwiched between those handsome, sexy men would be a good position for any womanifthey weren’t in the same circle, constantly connected because of Wayne. And if one of them didn’t pronounce their love for you at the breakfast table last week.”

“I know.” Jasmine sighs.

“What are you going to do?”

“Hell, if I know. My heart belongs to them both, so I’m completely torn and have no idea what to do. If I’m being honest, I don’t want to choose.”

“Jas, I can’t help you out of this mess, but I need you out of it ASAP. You’re going to have to choose one of them or leave them both alone.”

“I know. I know. I will figure this out. I just need some time.” For the first time, Jasmine truly looks like she doesn’t know what to do with herself. Her hands fidget around the makeup mirror, and I can feel the worry emitting from her.

Once we arrive at Allure, I turn off the car and look in the mirror.

“You ready to go in there?” she asks, dropping her mirror back into her purse and seemingly happy to be discussing something other than her love triangle.

“I am, but Jas—”

“What?”

“We’re not fighting tonight.”

“Okay. We’renot, but if one of them gets out of line, I am turning up in Allure.”

I chuckle, knowing that Jasmine's fiery spirit will keep things interesting. "Well, in the case that one of them gets out of line, you have a deal. We will turn up.”

Jasmine’s mood brightens with her stunning smile on full display. She pumps her fist in the air and offers me a fist bump. “That’s what I’m talking about, big sis. Let's show them what them Banks girls are made of."

With a shared chuckle, we step out of the car, ready to face the night that awaits us at Allure. Brooke Valentine’s “Girl Fight” song emits from the Zanga Bar, next door to Allure. We’re lured closer by the thumping music as if it’s a siren call.

As we approach the entrance, a wave of excitement washes over me, mingling with a twinge of nerves. The anticipation hangs heavy in the air, electrifying every breath I take.

I can’t help but wonder if I should take the timing of the DJ playing the “Girl Fight” song as a sign and go back home, but once Jasmine pulls the door open and we enter the restaurant, it’s showtime.
