Very, very mischievous for someone who rarely got away with anything. Samael gave that girl very, very little trust. I knew for a fact that she had just as frequent a problem with sitting down comfortably as I did. We kind of liked that about each other. Misery liked company; at least it liked someone to bitch about men with.

“What about him?” I pointed to the cat.

“As long as she gets paid, I couldn’t possibly care less,” the cat replied frankly. “Besides, dragons are very shy creatures. At least around demons. Go on, my dear,” he told Wendy. “We’ll cover for you.”

“Dragons?” Macy put her head in my lap and looked at me dreamily, stretching her body out on the sofa. “I love this place…” she sighed happily. She looked up at me. “What about you? Are you happy? You’re moving into that new mansion soon, right?” Her eyelashes fluttered up at me playfully.

“It’s not a new mansion, it’s an old mansion. With a lot of new parts now,” I laughed. “And yes. I’m pretty damn happy.”

“This whole thing upset your life pretty bad. I thought you wanted to learn languages and translate at the EU or UN,” she reminded me, and I blushed. Man, my dreams had changed.

“Yeah, well, I still know a few languages. Especially French,” I gestured at the direction Wendy went. “I just have another career in mind. This university is my baby now.”

“They do call you Queen Kaci,” my sister reminded teasingly.

“And this is my kingdom,” I laughed, dramatically opening my arms and then resting my elbows on the back of the low sofa behind me. “My wolf is pretty fucking happy with it. When she’s happy, she lets me sit down and have a cup of fucking coffee without moving for a second.”

“Not just a politician anymore, huh?”

“Nope. I’ve really been promoted,” I granted.

It wasn’t all bad. My wolf was happy as long as she had boundaries. She was getting the picture now. My men had their hands full with her, but it seemed like I was the one constantly sitting on a sore ass the next day. “It’s feeling calmer now that there aren’t so many otherworldly shenanigans going on.”

“According to Wendy, there’s always otherworldly shenanigans going on,” Macy laughed. “She’s meeting with a dragon right now, for God’s sake. Your mates are in the back drinking beer with a couple of demons.”

“It’s weird,” I admitted. “But you know, I feel like I can do it now. And you know what? If there’s more shenanigans, then let them come. I’ll buy front-row seats to it.”

“And I’m sitting next to you,” Macy promised.

Her cellphone buzzed, and once again, it was Beau. She ignored it; she was enjoying a new cat-and-mouse strategy with him. She wasn’t chasing him until he caught her. She closed her eyes and ignored a couple of customers that came into the store. “So let the craziness begin.”
