“????.”

I turn around and realize that I’d somehow missed that my dad was in the kitchen during my gawk session. There are a couple beers on the counter nearby and he raises his hands, which hold another four beers. I chuckle. The twins and I walk over to him, take a beer, and we all stand together in a hug as we rest our foreheads together. Our usual family greeting and goodbye.

But something’s wrong with Dad. He’s holding us tighter than he usually does, and his muscles are all taught under my hand. I pull back and really look at him. His face and eyes are haunted, and I know things must be really bad.

“Dad?”

He shakes his head, but I don’t miss how his hand goes to his necklace. The necklace Mom gave him a few months before she died. He always clutches it when he thought of her or of what happened leading up to her death. My stomach sinks as Dragon’s words echo in my head.

“No, no, no, no. They can’t be back.”

My voice is a whisper, but Dad hears me anyway. His gaze locks with mine and he nods, a grim look on his face. I stare at him in disbelief. The twins look at him in shock before their worried gazes turn toward me.

I don’t realize I’ve backpedaled until my back hits a muscular chest and hands grip my waist. Someone takes the beer that’s now dangling precariously from my fingers. Dad’s about to speak when a voice booms from the front door.

“You better let me in, prospect, unless you want to be six feet under. My family’s in there!”

“Thor said no one else was to enter.”

I’d know that voice anywhere and damn, do I need him right now. I quickly rip the hands away that were on my hips and make my way to the entryway with the twins hot on my heels. Through the door window is the unmistakable figure of my uncle. Well, adopted uncle.

“Bear!” all three of us shout in unison.

The prospect is roughly shoved aside, and Bear hastily opens the door. Seconds later, he wraps all three of us in a giant hug. When he pulls back, he cups my face and damn, my tears almost fall at that point.

“Uncle Bear, please say it isn’t true.”

?????????[podozhdite] = Wait

????? ???[sukin syn] = Son of a bitch

Fuck, I’m not sure what the hell’s going on, but seeing my Spitfire near tears is gutting me.

Wait,mySpitfire?

That thought shocks the shit out of me, but damn, does it feel right.

The surge of jealously at seeing her in Bear’s arms is almost too much. Thor seems to be in the same boat, which is a comforting feeling. Levi’s dad, Roy, and Phoenix eye us both suspiciously, but I don’t give a shit. Levi’s my only focus as I try to keep from ripping her out of Bear’s arms.

The only thing that slightly calms both of us is when she whispers, ‘Uncle Bear’. Last I knew, he didn’t have any family. Bear rests his forehead against hers and whispers something to her. She nods and takes a deep breath, squaring her shoulders as she meets his eyes again.

“That’s my little ninja. Now, let’s sit down and get all the deets. Then, if you want, I can show you where the gym is, and we can spar.”

She gives him a small smile, and her shoulders relax a little before she follows the others to the living room.

Bear turns toward Thor, and anger radiates off him as his eyes narrow at him. Normally, Thor would have ripped into a brother for this disrespect, but instead, Thor’s just standing there, taking Bear’s ire. Also, surprisingly, Phoenix doesn’t seem concerned by Bear’s outburst. Almost like he was expecting it. Now I’m getting pissed. What do they know that I don’t?

“You shouldn’t have kept me out, Pres. You know they’re my family,” he growls. There’s a reason Bear has that road name. He’s a mountain of a man at six foot ten inches tall, almost three hundred pounds of pure muscle. You do not want him pissed off and coming after you.

“I wasn’t expecting you back until tomorrow, otherwise you would have been with us on the ride.”

“As soon as I heard, I came back. They aren’t getting her, Pres. Not again.”

Something passes between them and dammit, I want to know what the hell was going on. Especially if it involves Levi.

When Thor called earlier, he didn’t give me much info other than there was a very serious threat to Levi and a warning for the twins. Thor gives a chin lift to Bear and, with a look back at me, we all head to the living room.

I know that look. If I still have questions after this, he’ll fill me in. Also, I know we’re on the same page.
