“Sorry, Sunshine, but we’re gonna have to move you to do this. Doc doesn’t have a raising bed like they do in a hospital.”

She gives me a small smile. “I kind of figured. And thank you for bringing me here rather than the hospital. With Preston, Phillip, Bruce, X and who knows else running around, I’d rather be here so long as Doc had everything he needed to patch me up.”

Smoke and I share another look. Yeah, we’re happier with her being here as well.

Shaking my head, I walk around by Smoke and between the two of us, we got her scooted closer to the edge.

I hand Smoke the thermos, to which he gives me a surprised look, but I know they need to bond. Not being ready to leave her side, I take her hand in mine and lazily rub circles on the back of her palm with my thumb.

Neither one of us says anything while Sunshine slowly sips her soup.

About twenty minutes later, she can barely keep her eyes open.

Letting go of her hand, I slip off my cut, set my phone down on the counter along with my gun and kick off my boots. Looking through some cabinets, I thankfully find some pillows and grab two out before handing one to Smoke.

Seeing that Doc had ordered a larger than normal sized bed, most likely because so many of my brothers are huge, I lay down on my side next to Sunshine on the bed. Even laying this way, there’s plenty of room for both of us. Plus, there’s no way that I’ll be able to take my eyes off her tonight. Hell, most likely for a lot longer than that. Hopefully she won’t be pissed off about it, but with this incident, she’s going to have to go on lockdown.

“Sleep, Baby Girl. We’ll be here if you need us,” Smoke tells her.

With a yawn, she nods and slips her hands out from under ours and places them on top of ours. “Please don’t hold down my hands. I have a feeling that could be a trigger if I can’t free them while sleeping,” she says as she yawns again.

Leaning down, I kiss her. “Night, Sunshine. Love you.”

She looks up at me with a sleepy smile. “Love you, too, Liam.” She pauses and turns toward Smoke.

“Thank you for coming to see me, and even though we’re still on the outs, I still love you, Dad.”

He swallows audibly and blinks repeatedly. “They wouldn’t have been able to keep me away with you hurt like this. Love you, too, Baby Girl.”

She gives him a small smile. “We still need to talk, though. You hurt me with everything you said and did.”

He gives her a curt nod. “When you’re ready, we will. Right now, you focus on getting better.”

Once her eyes close, Smoke repositions his chair slightly, and puts his pillow behind his head as he leans against the wall. He’s going to be stiffer than fuck in the morning, but I already know without asking that he’s not going to leave. Unfortunately, Doc only has the one bed in here.

A few minutes later, her breathing evens out and he clears his throat.

“Thank you for getting to her so quickly,” he says quietly.

“Of course. She’s my everything.” I pause as my thoughts go back to those assholes. “They’re both downstairs and I’m sure our brothers will keep them entertained until we get down there.”

He gives me a chin lift, his face hardening. “On my way in, Reaper told me the phone call to Carter was made from a burner phone, so we’re up against the wall on that one.”

“Maybe and maybe not.”

I then go on to fill him in on the interrogation with Luscious.

To say he’s fucking livid is an understatement. He was pulled in to help on some of the work when stuff was going down with Frida, and not even he knew about Carter being involved.

“She’s still down there as well, so we’ll get more answers later. Tonight, let’s try to sleep. I have a feeling it’s going to be a rough night.” My gaze goes to Mae, and I softly caress her cheek when I see her brow furrow in her sleep.

Smoke grunts and closes his eyes, his giant hand still resting underneath Mae’s.

I wish we could take her back to our house so we could all rest easier, but Doc wanted her close by for tonight, so this will have to do for now.

It’s been a couple of days since the club rescued me and I’m finally able to move around easier. So far, everything looks like it’s healing properly, which is a relief in and of itself.

After breakfast that next day, Doc gave the okay for me to sleep back at the townhouse, and a part of me wonders if it’s because he could hear me screaming at night or not. I’d woken up three times that night from my nightmares. All three times, Liam and, surprisingly Dad, helped calm me down and coax me back to sleep.
