I nod, more than ready, and my stomach takes the opportunity to make itself known. “Sorry. Other than the couple of snacks at the hospital last night, I haven’t had anything to eat.”

“Well, let’s go get that rectified.”

Liam’s hands scoot under my butt, and I wrap my arms around his neck. He lifts me effortlessly and, in a few minutes, is carrying me down the stairs while Kai follows with my IV pole.

He sits me down at a table and I frown, wanting to get my own food, but he silences my protests.

“Sunshine, you just woke up. I want to make sure you can get grub since it’s after 3 pm, and then you need to head back up to rest.”

Sighing, I nod, and he goes into the kitchen.

A combination of ‘Mae’, ‘Auntie MaeMae’, and ‘MaeMae’ ring out and I smile at seeing Lindsey, Jordan, and Sadie running toward me.

Kai steps in front of me, crouching down.

“Remember kiddos, no touching Mae’s back, right?”

“We remember, Uncle Punisher,” they all say in unison.

He steps aside and they latch onto my legs and arm.

“I’m so glad you’re awake,” Lindsey says, with tears in her eyes.

“Aww, I’m sorry if I worried you, Pumpkin. Patch and Doc were working on me a long time, and I needed to sleep off the sedation.”

I pull her close to kiss her forehead, but at my wince, Kai picks her up, setting her gently on my lap. Moments later, Drae follows Dad down the stairs with his IV pole. We sure are a pair.

Lindsey giggles and kisses my cheek before I kiss her forehead.

The others want Kai to do the same for them, so I kiss Sadie’s forehead, and then Jordan’s.

Jordan turns in my lap and cocks his head to the side. “Is it true, Auntie MaeMae? Are you pregnant? I heard that Uncle Smoke thinks you are.”

I look up at movement nearby and my gaze locks with Liam’s as he brings me a plate of food and a water. He winks at me and I blush. Looking back down at Jordan, I smile.

“Dad was right. I’m pregnant.”

Cheers go up from everyone and Jordan hugs my arm tight.

“I want another hug!” Sadie and Lindsey both cry and Liam and Kai both pick up one of them, letting them take turns hugging me again.

“Alright now, kiddos. I need to eat. We can hang out after I’m done, okay?”

All three of them cheer.

Ten minutes later, I’ve eaten all I can, and push my plate forward. Liam takes the cue and finishes my food as I sip a small cup of black coffee.

Patch comes over and he sits down with me. A beat later, Doc sits down next to him.

“How are you feeling, Mae?” Patch asks.

“Still tired, but I’m hoping that will be better after another night of sleep. It’s really hard to sit or stand completely upright, but I’m guessing that’s because the stitches are so fresh?” I ask them in question.

“It’s natural for your stitches to pull a little as you move, but if it doesn’t improve in a couple days, let us know,” Doc tells me.

“If you haven’t already figured out, your back is pretty much wrapped. The only parts that aren’t are from your under arms and up, and those are covered with gauze and then taped down. You aren’t going to be able to wear a bra for a week or so. Same rules you had last time apply now. No baths and keep your showers fairly quick. Pat dry the stitches and when they are dry, they can be wrapped again,” Patch says.

“Thank you both for taking care of me again. Is it possible to get the IV out now?”
