Only someone who was decent and moral would respond to the threat. That did not apply to Doomers, mobsters, cartel bosses, and, regrettably, many others.

If the guy were a lone operator, Kalugal could have compelled the Doomer to release Luis and his family, but he wasn't, and the others would realize that something was wrong if the guy started acting too out of character.

"Perhaps we can come to an agreement. You know how the saying goes, it's not really stealing when taken from a thief."

"There will be no agreement. You will return the women and never come to this area again."

The plan was, no doubt, to ambush whoever came with the women, and since the Doomers knew they were dealing with immortals, they assumed that they would send a small force that they could easily overpower.

Kalugal affected a resigned sigh. "You know my name, but I don't know yours, and if we are to negotiate, I need a name."

"You can call me Bud, but there is nothing to negotiate."

It was obviously a fake name, but it didn't matter. Kalugal didn't need the vermin's real name because he would be dead soon.

"I can't make it by eight, Bud. The cargo has been moved and is more than half a day away." He switched to his compulsion voice. "The earliest I can do is meet you at the place you indicated at four in the afternoon tomorrow. You must agree to this. Until then, keep Luis and his family safe," Kalugal pushed with all the strength of his compulsion to ensure compliance.

If Bud was the commander of the group, Luis and his family would be safe.

"Be there exactly at four," Bud said.

"I will do my best, but in case I can't make it on time, should I call you on this number?"

"Yes, and don't bother trying to trace it. It's encrypted."

"I have no doubt."

As the call ended, Kalugal turned to Kian. "We need time to get organized. That's why I told him tomorrow at four."

"Obviously." Kian briefly closed his eyes. "What a clusterfuck." He opened his eyes and looked at Kalugal. "I detected the accent. Bud is a Doomer."

Kalugal nodded. "Not only that, but he also knows who we are. He pretended not to know, so we wouldn't guess who he was and would come unprepared."

From the corner of his eye, Kalugal saw Turner nodding. The guy's strategic mind was, no doubt, already working on a plan.

"I'm glad we have a full day." Turner pulled out his phone. "We need to get vehicles, drones, explosives, and, if possible, satellite pictures."

Kian

Thank the merciful Fates for Turner. It seemed like he already had a plan, or at least the framework for one.

"What do you have in mind?" Kian asked.

"We are not going to the Acapulco port. We will find a spot several hours drive from there, use the rescue boats to get to shore and use ground transportation from there. If they know that we are coming with the ship, they will be waiting for us at the harbor, and they might be planning to attack it. Even if we are moored away from the dock, they could use speedboats and gliders to attack us. We can't count on the Mexican military or navy to come to our aid."

"I'm not worried about that." Kian crossed his arms over his chest. "Let them come. Toven and Kalugal can freeze them in place, and we have enough firepower on this ship to blow them out of the water."

Turner shook his head. "The best offense is to avoid confrontation where possible, especially when the enemy dictates the time and place. We need to take them by surprise."

"You are right," Kian said. "Please, continue."

"As I said, the Guardians will use the rescue boats to get to shore, and I'll arrange for armored vehicles to be waiting for us at a predetermined location."

"The less predictable we are, the better," Onegus said. "But they might anticipate our move."

Turner shrugged. "I doubt it. There is no way they know about me and my connections in Mexico. If you didn't have me, would you have been able to arrange for armored vehicles and the other equipment on such short notice?"

"Probably not," Onegus admitted. "Are you sure that you can get what we need?"
