“Are you really going to pick them up?” Noah asked, standing at the door to the bathroom in his underwear, abs on full display. He’d caught me half bent, hand reaching out for the towels.

“Well… yeah.”

“You going to be thinking about it all day if you don’t?”

“I doubt it.”

“Then leave the fucking towels on the floor. I want to start our day.” He reached out for me, and I took his hand, allowing myself to be towed into the closet that was the same size as my childhood bedroom.

We dressed casually and left the house together, heading up the coast to the small diner we both loved. They made the best crab cakes on the west coast, which meant the eggs benedict made with said crab cakes were the best flavor explosion you could ever imagine.

Noah sat across from me in the booth, his eyes running over me in a constant loop. He linked his hands with mine and ran his thumb along the edge of my hand in slow sweeps, dropping it the moment the waitress came into view with a half-full pot of coffee and a smile.

“What can I get for you?”

“Two coffees, and two of the crab cake eggs benedict.”

“You got it. Anything else?”

“Just keep the coffee coming if you can, please.”

The waitress looked up, and recognition flickered across her features as she finally took Noah in. “Oh, absolutely. I’d be happy to.”

She stayed a couple of seconds longer than necessary before she backed away with a nervous laugh and zipped away.

“She’s in the kitchen right now saying,Oh my god, Noah Jennings is in my section.”

Noah laughed. “Wouldn’t be the first time. Does it bother you?”

“Not really. Does it bother you ever?” I’d never really asked him that before. I’d asked Kenzie plenty of times, but she was still in the honeymoon phase with her stardom. Noah had been dealing with it since he was a kid.

“It can be a pain in the ass when I’m not in the mood, but the fans are what keep me getting those roles. If they like me, the studios want me in their projects. If I’m not in the mood, I go where people won’t notice me.”

“And where’s that? Mars?”

“There are places I can go where people ignore me. There are certain clubs and bars where they make it a point to be a safe place for anyone living under a microscope. Absolutely no cell phones.”

“I have yet to experience that with you.”

“I haven’t taken you to one?”

I shook my head and leaned back as the waitress slipped the two mugs on the table and filled it with her refreshed coffee pot. She beamed her smile at Noah again before backing away. I could see a couple of the other waitresses looking around the corner at us.

“I’ll have to see what I can do about that,” Noah said, having noticed the gaggle himself.

“You’re so good to me.”

We sipped our coffee in silence, listening to the hustle and bustle of the place in companionable silence until our food arrived.

“So, what do you have planned for us today?” I asked, cutting into my food, making a happy little noise when the perfect eggs broke over the crab cake and English muffin.

“We’re going to be pampered.”

“Oh?” I shoveled the first forkful into my mouth and rolling my eyes in delight. “What kind of pampering?”

“Day spa first for couple massages and some other luxuries you need to experience. Then I have you booked in for the whole party pamper package: nails, makeup, hair. That way, you don’t have to bother yourself getting ready for the party later. Then we can load up into the car and change at the hotel room before we head to the party.”

“How long’s the drive?”
