And I'm a monster.

"Why? Is everything alright? Is someone threatening you?"

I pick up the bag and hand it to him. "No. Not yet anyway. She needs to be with me at all times, Ciro. That is all you need to know."

"Good. I think she's nice. Has she ever been to the mainland?"

Shit, I’ve never asked her. I just assumed because of the book thing. That also reminds me. “Hey, do you still have that contact who gets all the physical books?”

He snorts. “Yeah, but what the hell do you need physical books for when you can hack the vault those evil assholes have locked up and get them for free digitally?”

“Can you call the guy or not? It’s for Agnes.”

I hate lying to my best friend, but I don’t want him to think more into it, and frankly, it’s none of his business because the conversations I have with Lillith are mine, and no one needs to know what we discuss. Especially what she likes and what she’s into. It’s personal.

“Relax, brother. Of course. What do you need?”

I tell him, and he laughs. “Alright, I got you. I’m sure I’ll have them before we leave. I’ll make room for the boxes.”

Ihave never been to the mainland. My father told me it’s forbidden, and that I couldn't get off the island for safety reasons. I heard his associates talk about the mainland and how they need to regulate it so they can help others to the island.

I know it’s bullshit because the population on the island only increases when someone is born or when someone is let on because they work for someone.

Since I've already been on one of Killian's boats, I know my way around. I sit on one of the couches and stare at my phone.

Maybe I'll run into Ethan. I shouldn’t think about him, but he was an important part of my life. He was so heartbroken when I left. I hope he’s doing alright, and as sad as it sounds, I hope he’s found someone to spend time with. It would be selfish of me not to want the best for him.

It doesn't matter if Killian calls me gorgeous or pretty. I've been called that by many. He's probably just being nice because he knew I broke down and wanted to cut my face. He knows what would happen if I succeeded. I wouldn’t be able to show my face in upper-level society ever again. I'd probably be banished like he was.

Scanning the interior of the second boat Ciro came on, I didn't count on him bringing guests. Guests like the three girls currently giving me dirty looks while Ciro and Killian are busy navigating the boat across international waters.

The dark-haired girl I've caught my husband fucking twice before we were married strides up in a short skirt with ripped fishnet stockings and a shirt ripped in the center, exposing her bra and the small swell of her breasts. She sits opposite me in the seating area, crossing her shapely legs encased in boots that reach to her thigh. "So how's married life?" she asks with a knowing smirk.

Turning my head to the side, I let my hair spill over. I decided to change my look by straightening it and wearing a full suit with knife boots that hit mid-thigh. I give her a sarcastic smile. "How's single life?" I shoot back.

She snickers sarcastically. "You’ve got a bite."

"You don't want to find out how hard."

The blond one plops down next to her, wearing a similar outfit, except her shirt is tied to her waist, exposing her stomach. "Damn. You have a sharp mouth from that beautiful face."

"She's not that beautiful."

"Shut the fuck up, Blair. You know she is." The other girl with brunette hair and a ripped jean skirt sits on the other side and turns to face me. "I'm Sydney by the way. You already know Blair."Bitch.She points at the blonde. "And this is Sarah. We all grew up together. Then we met Ciro, and Ciro introduced us to Kill."

Blair leans close to Sarah and plays with a strand of her hair while the boat picks up speed, cutting through the waves. "We've been tight ever since."

"That's nice. You're all tight and shit."

Blair smiles coyly. She reminds me of Elvira, old but still looks young in a weird way. It's like you can't tell her age, and she's stuck in her mid-forties.

"Hmm. Especially, Kill."This bitch. She's baiting me for a reaction. Too bad she isn't getting one. She leans forward and calls out, "Right, baby? It's us tonight. Right, Kill?"

I look over, but he's distracted with Ciro looking over at something on a screen, and my stomach clenches. He wouldn't.

"Kill?” she repeats. "Right?" He looks up over at her with his black mask on that reads DAMNED. "Right, Kill?" she purrs.

"Yeah," he rushes out and looks back at the screen.
