"Yeah."

"We can't shoot them. More would come, and it's just the two of us."

"No shit. We have to come up with something."

"They’re tracing the car. How the fuck are we going to get back to the Cocoon?"

"I'm not. You are."

"Where are you going?"

I check out the location, and I'm two miles from the docks. If the Utheans run a trace on the car and find me here, they will know I killed Ethan and Blair. It will get back to me. The good thing is that Ciro is the only one who knows about the grid. I couldn't trust anyone but him.

"I'm going to the boat. I need to get back to my house. Bring my wife and son back home. I will create a diversion."

"How would I get to the Cocoon?"

"You have a car there. You can bring her back on the second boat to the island."

I hate trusting him with my family's life, but she's dead if they trace me here. They will kill me or put a bounty on my head as an enemy of the state. One soldier can't kill an army by himself.

I pull my mask off my face and look Ciro in the eyes. "I'm trusting you with everything I've got. Bring my wife and son home."

He nods. "I will." He pushes my mask down over my face. "Go."

The Utheans can detect the weapons when they go off, so I run in the opposite direction, looking for a rear exit. I find it on the third turn. I run out and fire the weapon to an open field of debris. I hear the sound of their aircraft, giving Ciro the all clear to get in the car and get my family.

I run back inside the building toward the other exit and run the two miles to the docks.

Hearing footsteps outside the bedroom door, I move slowly, trying not to wake Niro. I watch the door being pushed open, thinking it's Killian. Ciro rushes in, and I know something is wrong.

"Where's Killian?" I rush out.

"He went back. Utheans were patrolling the car. He created a diversion, and I was able to come back."

"How is he getting to the docks?"

Ciro gives me a grim look. "On foot."

Sarah rushes into the room, terrified. "Where's Blair?"

Ciro slides his gaze to Sarah. "Why do you want to know? Where did she go, Sarah? Why are you so worried about Blair?"

I see the terrified look cross her face as she backs out of the room. Something is off.

Ciro tosses the keys to me and draws a weapon from the back of his pants, aiming it at her head. "Get Niro and wait for me in the car, Lillith."

"You don't understand. I wasn't part of it, Ciro. You have to believe me. What did you do to her?" she cries. I look at Ciro and Sarah, trying to pick up a sleepy Niro in my arms, trying to figure out the same thing. What does Blair have anything to do with Ethan? What is she talking about?

Ciro shakes his head. "I can't believe you would do it. Why?"

Sarah looks at me and responds begrudgingly, "Because she is the reason for all of it." Her top lip curls. "All of you salivate like dogs when she's around. She has everything, while we get the scraps."

"Where's Blair?" I ask Ciro, but I have an idea.

"She's dead. Killian blew her fucking head off after we caught her fucking Ethan. They're traitors, Lillith. They want to serve you to the judges on a platter. They want to destroy us."

"Shoot her," I say quietly, leaving the room.
