“Alright, guys, I’m ready to turn in,” I say, nudging Hunter to make room for Zoey and me to slip out of the booth.
“Turn in, huh?” he replies, wiggling his eyebrows, earning him an elbow to ribs.
Once Zoey and I are in the elevator, she wraps her fists around my shirt and surprises me with a kiss, a deep and savage one. She’s grasping control of the kiss this time, her tongue spearing past my lips into my mouth, her hands wrangled in my shirt, her body pressing against me tightly.
“Holy fuck, baby,” I growl when she pulls her lips back.
She’s got the most devilish smirk on her face, pure want gleaming in her eyes. “I have to admit,” she says, “being in a hotel with you kinda puts me in the mood.”
My teeth grind together, and it takes every ounce of self-restraint I have not to pull the emergency stop on the elevator so I can ravish her right here and now.
I let out a long, jagged breath. “You really know how to make an elevator trip of eleven floors feel like an eternity.”
“Serves you right,” she quips back, “you should know how long a whole hockey game feels when I see you in that uniform and have to spend the rest of the game imagining what I want to do to you when we’re alone.”
When the elevator door pings and opens, I gather her in in my arms and race to our room. When I go to fish the keycard out of my pocket, she rests her hand on my arm.
“Hey Liam,” she whispers, stilling me.
“Yeah?”
“Just one thing before we go in.”
“What?”
Her lips curl into the sweetest smile I’ve ever seen in my life. “I love you.”
A smile breaks out on my lips, the warmest, fuzziest feeling spreading all over me. “I love you, too, baby.”
I never thought I’d feel this way, but the girl in my arms means so much more to me than the championship I just won on the ice.
No matter how many championships I do or don’t have in my future, I’ve already found my real endgame. I just can’t wait to see what the rest of our lives have in store for us.
