The nurse comes and finds me before Niko returns so I flick him a text to let him know which room to find us in and Ally and I follow the nurse. As I enter the room, Sophia’s eyes find mine and my heart leaps out of my chest.

“Soph, you okay?” I ask. My feet rush to her as I take her hand in mine.

“Yeah,” she croaks. Her voice is still scratchy. I squeeze her hand tightly as I lift it to my lips and deliver kiss after kiss to the back of it.

“Hey girl,” Ally says, coming up beside the opposite side of the bed and pulling a chair closer.

“Your parents were here earlier too,” I inform her, which she nods to before her eyes close again and before we know it, she’s asleep.

Later a doctor arrives and checks out her chart.

“Which one of you gentleman is her husband?” he asks, as his eyes flicker back and forth between me and Niko.

“I am,” I tell him.

“Is it alright to speak freely or would you like to talk in private?” he asks.

“Soph, wake up,” I tell her, as I shrug her arm gently. Her sleepy eyes open and noticing the doctor she becomes more awake. “The doctor wants to talk to you. Do you want Ally and Niko to leave?” She shakes her head, so the doctor carries on.

“It says here that you, Sophia, are allergic to peanuts. Is that correct?”

“Yes. They said they don’t use peanut products at that restaurant though,” she croaks.

“No but it has come back that you are also allergic to shrimp. Your husband said you ate a piece of chicken, but webelieve it was shrimp you ate and that caused the reaction,” he informs us.

“That makes sense as I’m not a big seafood lover, so I haven't tried shrimp before.”

“You’re probably already meticulous with having the peanut allergy so you’ll need to add shrimp to the list in future,” he says.

“Thanks doc,” I say, holding out my hand for him to shake.

“Before I forget, the baby will be fine with all the allergy and EpiPen stuff going on. It should have no effect on them, so you don't need to worry,” he states, and my eyes widen.

“Baby? What baby?” Sophia’s shaky voice echoes my thoughts.

“It says here you’re pregnant. Is that not correct?”

“No,” Sophia says.

“Well, the blood test has come back positive for pregnancy so I’d say that congratulations are in order. I’ll have them set up an ultrasound to confirm if you like?” he says, and I nod as I’m speechless. “Very well, someone will be along shortly.” He leaves the room and I turn back to my stunned wife along with Niko and Ally, who are sitting there with equally stunned faces.

“A baby?” I whisper.

“I’m pregnant?” Sophia says, and I sit next to her on the bed staring into her eyes as I take her hands.

“Well, we have been having a lot of sex,” I admit.

“Okay I think that’s our cue to leave. Congrats guys. We will leave you to digest this news,” Niko says, before planting a kiss on the top of Sophia’s head and dragging Ally out of the room.

“Ring me after the ultrasound Soph,” Ally calls out, as she’s being pulled away.

“A baby?” Sophia whispers at me.

“A baby.”

“Are we ready for a baby? We just got married. People are going to think we have lost our damn minds,” Sophia starts rambling.

“Hey, hey, hey, take a breath. All that matters is us and how we feel and think. No one else’s opinions matter, okay?”
