It’s something to do.

There’s no one to talk to besides Stacey.

Maybe I should ask for my phone back?

I’ve been wrestling with everything Dom told me about Chase…why he is the way he is…whether there’s someone good underneath…that sort of thing.

When it comes to killing time, I’ve read everything I could find at the clubhouse and cleaned everything and found every which way to distract myself, including binge-watching several TV shows.

Now, I’m on week number four and there’s nothing left to do, so I decide to hang out with Stacey—again.I’m becoming quite proficient as a bar-lady.

I’ve had other little jobs before, growing up, but I’ve never tended bar.

What’s worrying me today is that I’m supposed to go change Chase’s bandages later, but I don’t know if I want to be alone with him after what happened last night.

I can’t take Stacey because she’s busy here…and let’s face it…we’re both girls and the two of us versus the incredible hulk—injured or not—is probably not a great idea.

I’m not saying that Chasewoulddo anything, but I don’t really know him that well. As much as I want him tonotbe psychologically damaged…everything is pointing to that very possibility.

The clock is scrolling down to late afternoon when Rick and Cassidy come in to the bar.

I can’t help my face splitting into a smile when I see that they’re holding hands. A funny voice comes out when I say, “Ooh! What have we here!”

Cassidy gives me a big smile back as does Rick. She comes to me for a hug, “Rick spoke to my brother about things. He said it’s cool so we’re giving this a shot.”

“That’s great!” I look at Rick and use my puppy voice. “So, how’re things going?”

“They’re going,” he nods with a smile and takes Cassidy’s hand again.

“Hey! I could really use some help from you guys, do you mind?”

Rick jerks his head, “With what?”

“I’ve got to go change Chase’s bandages, why don’t you guys come along and say hi? He’s probably going crazy without company.”

“Uh…” Rick looks uncertain.

“Come on! It won’t take long. I’m sure he’d love to see some familiar faces.”

Cassidy gives me a weird face, “Are you talking about thesameChase?”

Before I can say anything, Rick agrees, “Sure, we can do that. Five minutes, in and out, right?”I don’t know why he’s agreeing, but I’ll take it.

“Sure,” I nod with enthusiasm. “Five minutes. Let’s go!”

I wave to Stacey and run out to the parking lot. Rick and Cassidy aren’t far behind. They get on his bike and I get into my car.

The drive is short and we arrive together, park and I lead them to the door, “Five minutes, I promise!”

Cassidy smiles at me and nods like I’m crazy.

I open up and announce our arrival. “Hello? Chase? Cassidy and Rick are here to visit!”

“In here!” I hear Chase call from the bedroom, but the thing that really catches my attention is the full bottle of whiskey on the coffee table in the living room—it’s untouched.

We all head to the bedroom and Rick is the first one in. “Hey brother,” he puts his hand out to Chase and they shake. “How’s it hanging.”

“Low and to the left,” Chase smiles. That’s new…he never smiles. He’s lying on the bed, watching a war documentary.
