He raises his brow, “Not even me?”

I smile and shake my head,“Especially not you! This is not something you just decide one morning, which is exactly whatyoudid. I’m twenty-five, I’ve spent as long as I can remember in school, I’ve only just started having a life and I love you, you know I do, but I’m not ready to play house yet.”

“You know, that’s kind of what you’ve been doing at the clubhouse.”

“Yeah, and the reason I’m doing it is because Dom wanted to punish me.”

“But is it so bad being here?”

“Nick, come on. Why can’t we just enjoy the time we have? I don’t want to fight. I think this is a great apartment. I like it. No, I love it! If you love it too, then I think you should get it, but I’m not moving in with anybody.”

He gives me his grumpy look, “But you’ll visit extra?”

“Iwillvisit extra.”

He sighs, then pulls me to him and peppers me with kisses, “Okay, let’s go back to the clubhouse, then I’ll go check my piggybank.”

I laugh, “People still say that?”

He takes my hand and we start walking, “I don’t know aboutpeople, but I have an actual piggybank.”

He gives me a funny look and we both laugh.

Whew!I thought that was going to turn into something!

Nick is really sweet…more than I would’ve imagined when we were kids. You just can’t spring something like that on someone—moving in together.

When he drops me off I go into the bar and sit with Stacey. We talk while she works.

“I don’t know how you’re doing this,” she smiles and shakes her head.

“Doing what?”

“I can’t getoneguy and you’ve got two…andthey’re fine with it.”

“It’s not like I planned this! I just think monogamy is bullshit. Why should you have to chooseoneperson? It really doesn’t make sense to me at all.”

“Well what about family structures?”

“What about them?”

“I mean if you had kids?”

Lord!“That’s averyfaraway thing Stacey, and even in that situation, I don’t know how things would change. If we’re all good people, how can havingmorecaring people in a child’s life be a bad thing?”

“What about when the kid asks who their dad is?”

“There can be more than one father figure. It’s even a good thing! Maybe one person is really good at outdoorsy stuff and another is good with computers…the child gets to learn from both of them.”

“Hmm…maybe you’re right. The thing is, people tend to be very possessive.”

“I think insecure people who are afraid of their own mortality are the ones who get possessive because their spawn is what they’re leaving behind as a testament to the fact they even existed. There are eight-billion people on this planet, we don’t evenneedto have more kids.”

“Wow,” Stacey’s brow hits the ceiling. “That isa lotof information.”

“Sorry,” I laugh.
