CHAPTER 33: Alison

Alison let Harker lead her to the couch.

“Sit and I’ll get you something to drink.” He dropped her hand and headed toward the bar.

“I might be pregnant, remember?” She wasn’t going to make this easy for him. If she did, he’d get suspicious, and she couldn’t have that. She was going to win this damn game.

“True but one glass of wine this early in your pregnancy won’t hurt.” His eyes roamed over her and they were warm and filled with heat. “Do you think you’re pregnant?”

“You know it’s possible, but I doubt it. I don’t feel any differently but bring me a water just in case.”

He nodded and walked into the kitchen. “What do you want for dinner?” He came back out and sat next to her, putting the water on the coffee table.

“How about Indian food?”

“Sure.” He pulled his phone from his pocket. “Let me find the number to one that’s nearby.”

“I expected you to argue.” She frowned at him. “You don’t like Indian food.”

“I don’t but if it’ll make you happy then I can eat it.” He glanced at her, not touching his phone.

The jerk was waiting for her to suggest that they get something that he liked. Well, too bad. “Good. It will make me happy. I like Indian food. I never eat it because you don’t like it but tonight…that will make me happier.”

His eyes narrowed before he looked back at his phone, tapping the screen and raising it to his ear. “Hello. Yes. Hold on.” He handed her the phone. “You should order. I have no idea what you like.”

“No, you don’t.”

“I meant regarding Indian food.” By his tone he was struggling to keep his temper in check. “I know exactly what you like in other aspects of our life.”

Her cheeks heated as his gaze roamed over her body. That was no lie. She cleared her throat and ordered their food.

CHAPTER 34: Harker

“Thank you again for ordering me the chicken.” Harker closed his takeout box.

“You mean the chicken nuggets.” Alison handed him her empty container.

“Chicken fingers.” He walked into the kitchen and tossed the boxes.

“Hmm. They looked like nuggets to me. You know, stuff a kid would eat.”

“Adults like chicken nug...fingers too.” He went back into the living room. Dinner was done, it was time for sex.

“I suppose.” She stood. “I’m going to take a shower and go to bed.”

“Great. I’ll—”

“Alone.”

“Alison, come on. Forgive me. Please.” He was not above begging.

“I will.” She gave him a quick kiss on his cheek. “Just not yet.”

“When?” He captured her hand. “Later tonight?”

“Good night, Harker.” She laughed, pulling from his grasp.

“Night, Alison.”
