She got out of bed and her stomach rumbled for the first time in weeks. She was starving. She’d never been so hungry. She hurried into the kitchen. She wanted a grilled cheese…and sauerkraut.

She rummaged through the refrigerator. “Butter. Cheese.” She slid the items on the counter and dug through the condiments in the door. “Where’s the sauerkraut?” She picked up the jelly. “Oh. Toast and jelly sound good too.” She put that on the counter by the butter and cheese. “Pancakes. I need pancakes.” She opened the freezer but there were no frozen pancakes.

“Alison, is everything okay?” Harker stepped into the kitchen. His hair was damp from his shower, and he wore his blue jeans.

“Why aren’t you wearing dress pants?” She stared at his face, refusing to let him see her eyes roam over his body in those jeans—but as soon as he turned around, she’d look at his sexy ass.

“They’re comfortable and it’s Friday.”

“So?”

“I started casual Friday, remember?”

“Mac always wears jeans; Merri never does and Tobias wears whatever he wants. There’s no reason for casual Friday.”

“It’s for me.”

“Whatever.” She didn’t care that those jeans hugged his body like they’d been sewn for him. She wanted food. “Where is the sauerkraut.” She continued pulling things out of the refrigerator.

“Sauerkraut? We don't eat sauerkraut.”

“I do.” She glared at him. “You think you know everything about me, but you don’t. Just because you don't eat sauerkraut doesn’t mean I don’t.”

“Okay. You like sauerkraut. I’ve never seen you eat it in over a year, but apparently you like it.”

“I do.” She couldn’t believe how annoying he was.

“Great. We’ll get some sauerkraut next time we go to the store.”

“Next time?” She wanted it now. She had to have it. Her body craved it. Needed it. “You’re no help.” She closed the refrigerator and walked toward the door.

“Where are you going?” He stared past her at all the food on the counter. “Are you sick again? Do you want me to make something”—he pointed behind her—“out of that?”

“No. I’m going to the store to get sauerkraut…and pancakes. Waffles. Oh, those sound good. The syrup fills all those little squares. Maple syrup. We need maple syrup.” She brushed against his side as she squeezed past him. She stopped, her eyes drifting closed as she inhaled. He smelled so good—soap, cologne, and him.

Memories of hot nights covered in the cool sheets washed over her in waves—his body surrounding hers, filling her. She couldn’t stop her eyes from dropping to his crotch. His blue jeans were faded a little more in the zipper area and she wanted to get on her knees and unzip him. She’d missed his cock—how it grew in her hand, in her mouth. Hot and warm and so smooth. She shook her head, stumbling away from him and mumbling, “No. No. I’m not doing that.”

“Doing what?” He stared at her like he had no idea what she was talking about.

“Nothing and that’s exactly what I’m doing.” She hurried to the bedroom and grabbed her purse and her keys. She needed sauerkraut and she needed to get away from him before she grabbed his cock and rode her way to heaven.

“Alison, are you okay?” The damn man had followed her and now stood in the doorway. His scent, like a drug, filled her blood and made it come to life.

“I’m fine. Just stay away from me.” She shoved past him.

“Where are you going?”

“I told you. I’m going to the store to get sauerkraut. You never listen to me.”

“You’re still wearing your pajamas.”

She glanced down. She had on gray shorts and an old pink tank top. She didn’t look fashionable, but the outfit covered all the necessary parts. “Yeah. So?”

“You’re not going out of the house dressed like that.”

“You're not my father and before you say you’re my husband, you aren’t a real one. Even if you were, which you’ll never be, my husband is not going to tell me what I can and cannot wear. Ever.” She walked to the door and stopped, staring at her bare feet.

“Alison.” His tone was calm like he was talking to a crazy person. “It’s cold outside. It’s not warm enough for you to leave the house dressed like that.”
