“You just did.”

“Yeah, to a stranger in the store. It’s not a big deal.”

“Then why did you tell her?”

“Because she was staring at you like you were crazy.”

“So now I’m crazy?” Her eyes teared up. “It figures that as soon as I get pregnant, I’m crazy. Soon I'll be fat too.” She walked away, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Alison, wait.” He followed after her.

“Stop talking to me.” She turned down the cracker and cookie aisle.

Everything he did or said was wrong. He needed to get her home and fuck her again. That he’d done to both of their satisfaction. He grinned. He could spend the next few months doing nothing but fucking her.

She grabbed a container of squeeze cheese. She opened it, squirting some into her mouth and then tossed the container into the cart. She looked over at him, her face slightly pinched. “I want to go home. I don’t feel so good.”

“Because you ate everything in the store.” He cringed when he realized that he’d said that out loud.

“Now, I’m a pig. Yeah, a fat pig.”

“I didn’t say that.” Oh shit, he was in for it now.

“You have no idea what this is like.” She wiped her eyes as she walked away.

“I'm sorry. I didn’t call you a pig or fat.” He ignored the angry looks from the other customers.

“Give me the keys.” She stopped at the line to the register.

“Why don't you wait here with me?” He got in line.

“Why don’t you give me the keys?” She wiggled her fingers.

“Because right now, I don’t trust you not to leave me here.”

“You have my food.”

“But you’re not hungry anymore, are you?”

“I guess you’ll have to trust me.” Her eyes sparkled with challenge. “Just like I’m forced to trust you.”

“I don’t think this is a good idea.” But he handed her the keys. “Remember, there’s no sauerkraut at home,” he said as she walked away.

He prayed that she didn't leave because if she did, he’d have to find an Uber driver with a car big enough to fit all these groceries in it.

CHAPTER 13: Alison

By the time they got home, Alison’s stomach had exchanged hurting for gurgling.

Harker parked the car in the garage and glanced at her. “Why don’t you go inside? I got the groceries.”

“I’m fine.” She opened the door and stepped out of the car.

“You’re pale.” He got out and popped the trunk.

“I can carry a bag of groceries.” She walked to the back of the car, her stomach twisting.

“I know you can, but you don’t need to. I’ve got this.” He bent to kiss her.
