My heart skips a beat knowing he wanted to see me. But I can’t let him worm his way back in so easily. “You can’t just pop up at my house unannounced.”

“Why not?”

“Because you don’t have that right anymore. And I could have had company.”

His eyes turn dark. His nostrils slightly flare. “If that were the case, I would have made him leave.”

I stare at him. “I have a life, Jaxon.”

He takes a step around the island. “Does that life include a boyfriend?”

I hold my chin high. “What if I say yes?”

He’s on my side now. Taking tiny steps toward me. “Then I’d ask where the hell he was when I had my face buried between your legs.”

I’m flushed. I take a step back, creating space between us. “My love life is none of your business. As a matter of fact, my life isn’t any of your business. You’re lucky I’m even speaking to you.”

This seems to throw him off guard. He stays in place, careful not to move any closer. “I can’t argue with you there.”

“Good. Let me also add that yesterday was a mistake. A mistake that won’t happen again.”

He smirks as he takes another step forward. “Was it really a mistake?”

“Yes,” I answer without hesitation.

He closes the gap between us, his tall stature looming over me. “I think you enjoyed it.” His hands wrap around my waist. “As a matter of fact, I bet you can’t stop thinking about it.” I swallow thickly as his finger trails a path from my hip to my breast. “I’m also willing to bet that if I slide my hand inside your panties, you’ll be soaked.”

No way in hell will I bet him anything, knowing full well that I’ll lose. Instead, I beat him at his own game. I place my hand against his chest. “I bet you were thinking about it, too, weren’t you?” Shock crosses his face. “I bet you’ve been rock hard all day, thinking about being inside of me.”

He grips my waist tighter. “Fuck!” Before I have a chance to respond, his lips crash into mine. His dick strains against me through his jeans, dying to break free.

I tear my lips from his. “Is this the only reason why you came here, to have sex?”

He shakes his head. “No. I only wanted to see you. But damn, Kai, I can’t help myself when I’m around you.” He holds me for a minute longer before he releases me. He steps back and adjusts his jeans. I shift, hoping to ease the feel of my panties sticking to me. “How about we sit on the balcony and…talk?”

I nod. “That sounds like a good idea.”

JAXON

Kai has a front row seat of the city. I’ve always loved the view from her high-rise condo. We take our seats beside each other, and she dives right into her doughnut. She moans with satisfaction, causing me to get hard all over again. “How are your parents?”

“They’re doing well. They’re on a cruise right now celebrating their anniversary.”

“And Peyton?”

“She’s with them.”

We burst into laughter. “She’s never going to move out, is she?”

“I doubt it.”

I chuckle. “Your family was always good to me.”

“Yeah. They liked you a lot.” She places her half-eaten doughnut on the table in front of her. “I never got to meet any of your family.”

I wanted her to meet them. But by the time I was ready to introduce her to them, I got the phone call that changed my life. “I know. And it had nothing to do with you.”

“That’s the second time you’ve said that to me.”
