That was what I was holding on to.

The memories she brought back were dark and grim. Ones I’d do anything to erase.

Me: Any updates on that background check?

I texted Jimmy, finally giving in to my curiosity.

Jimmy: Squeaky clean.

Jimmy: Practically a nun.

He replied almost immediately. That last message made my lips spring into a dirty smirk. If only he knew how unholy she looked while I rubbed my hard cock against her pussy.

Me: That’s hard to believe.

It wasn’t. I was just fishing for a chip on that beautiful stranger’s shoulder. Something that confirmed my suspicions of the danger I felt stinging my skin since I met her. Coming up with nothing bothered me more than if she was in the system for attempted murder.

Me: Address?

Jimmy: Old one was in some small town in Oregon.

Me: Okay. And now?

His vague reply made me feel Jimmy was trying to withhold information. I knew him all too well to recognize his tactics in avoiding disclosing information he thought would unnecessarily rile us up.

Jimmy: Changed three months ago to some shitty neighborhood in the Bronx.

It was clear there was something I wouldn’t like in his answers.

Me: What shitty neighborhood?

Jimmy: The Bronx has so many.

He was definitely deflecting.

I dialed his number, my jaw clenching at the sound of every ring. It didn’t take too many for him to answer.

“I knew you’d call.”

“Then spit. Which one, Jimmy?” I grunted into the speaker. He knew by my tone to cut the bullshit.

“Tremont.”

Fuck. Tremont was one of the most dangerous boroughs in New York. I hated everything about it with a passion. It didn’t help that it was the stage of the worst nightmare I’d lived through. I hardly knew this girl, yet for some reason my gut twisted as I pictured her walking those streets. It was like the past repeating itself all over again!

“Any relation to Detroit?”

“Not that I could find.”

There was a sudden flood of relief rushing through me that tipped my lips into a stupid grin. It was just the mother of all coincidences teamed up with my troubled mind playing tricks on me. If there was anything to find, Jimmy would have found it already.

“Send me a pin of the location.” What was I doing? The urge to see her was a fucking unstoppable, moving force, unlike anything I’d ever felt before, and this was undoubtedly dumb as fuck.

“We have grocery store garbage to take out. Tomorrow.” Fuck. Just like that, my smile vanished. Reality bringing my feet back to the damn ground.

“Shit. Fine.”

“We need you at Dea Tacita tonight.”
