Liam's eyes squinted into sharp lines, his expression taking on a dark shade of mischief. “I’ve had my tongue shoved so far down your throat I could almost taste your breakfast. I know your boobs fit just right in my palm, and I can confidently say I made your panties soak right through your pants as you rubbed yourself against my cock. Some formalities have flown out the window by now, Miss Harden. Besides, I’m curious to know what happened to put off such a responsive little thing like you.”

I could hear that tone of his in my bones, my blushing cheeks, and my needy pussy. Liam wasn’t making things any easier for me, and despite telling me he would honor his promise not to kiss me again, apparently teasing me to death wasn’t off the table entirely.

“I’m gonna need more alcohol if this is where the conversation is headed,” I joked, waiting for him to relent, but he held his ground offering me the beer he held in his hand.

“Cheers,” I said, downing the rest of the drink in search of a concealing veil for my embarrassment since I was opening this Pandora’s box. “Okay, so… Prince Charmings, carriages, and white horses are never real, and neither are girls’ expectations for the perfect first time. So, I uncomplicated things and just did it. Like when you have to rip off a band-aid.” I shrugged, “I can’t say it was exactly enjoyable. The whole two minutes of it were painful and awkward, and at the end of the day, the whole thing didn’t exactly spark the desire to do it again,” I blurted as quickly as I could, waiting for the backlash in his response.

“That sounds like everything sex should NOT be. You need someone to show you how it’s really done. Only then can you know what you’re truly missing out on.” His devilish grin soaked me through as the possibilities behind his words sunk in. I had pictured him while I was in the shower the day we met and kissed in the elevator. My sorry excuse of a sex life, if I could even call it that, would be entirely different if Liam had been my first.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, trying to tame the permanent blush on my cheeks since this conversation began. I needed to throw a bucket of ice on it before I made him break that damn promise.

“Like I said, I haven’t been here long enough. Maybe, in time, I’ll find someone up to doing exactly that. Show me how it’s done.”

“Let me know when you do, will you? Find someone.” Damn, damn, damn. I bet you could. I bit my tongue, forcing the words to retract while I simply nodded in reply to avoid them from slipping.

Breathe Jamie, breathe.

Even though the subject was embarrassing and too intimate for comfort, Liam didn’t judge me. Whatever opinion he had about my actions, he kept to himself.

Contrary to my first impression, Liam was more approachable than what his appearance let on. Rich, gorgeous, and with his head deeply shoved up his ass. I was guessing that was a mask to deceive and scare away unwanted company.

Conversation ran way into the night, both of us sharing pieces of ourselves in an easy comfort that felt like we’d met in another lifetime.

“Hey there, Sleeping Beauty.” I felt warm fingers stroking my arm in calm, soothing paths, up and down, while that husky voice woke me up from a deep slumber. I opened one eye to peep, making sure I wasn’t dreaming, only to be graced with Liam’s handsome face inches away from mine as he kneeled beside me. “We need to be at the site in about two hours.”

“Oh my God!” I suddenly sprung up as reality sunk in, “What happened?”

“We fell asleep. You snore.” Liam replied, a smile stretching from his crooked smirk.

“I do not!” I countered, frantically smoothing out my hair, which I was sure resembled a rat’s nest.

I couldn’t believe I had stayed the night. Nothing happened, but the walk of shame still awaited me, and I couldn’t help but blush at the idea that whoever saw me would think…

“You look beautiful.” Liam cut off my chain of thought, grabbing my hand and placing a coffee mug in it.

“I think your eyesight might still be hazy from those beers we had,” I teased, taking a sip of my coffee before swiftly gathering my stuff, putting my shoes on, and searching for my phone under the couch. I had to hurry if I wanted to swing past home, take a shower, and change before heading back over to this side of town.

“I’m seeing you perfectly well. My eyesight has never been better.” I smiled back at him as I found my phone, waving it in the air when I finally found it. “I can also see you’re still using that old thing.”

“Oh, yeah. Haven’t had the chance to change.”

“Sure,” he mumbled. “Make sure you change to the new one today. That thing makes us look bad.”

“I have to run. I’ll meet you there, okay?” I shoved the phone into my purse, swinging the strap over my head as I headed for the door, Liam following behind me. “Oh, hum… and thank you. I had a great time last night. I missed having someone to talk to. I’ll see you soon. Bye.” I kissed him and left his apartment, rummaging my bag for a comb.

The door shut behind me, freezing me in my tracks as I realized what I had just done. Horror settled in first. Shame and dread swiftly followed.

I had instinctively, stupidly, blindly, given my boss a goodbye peck on the lips.

Chapter 8

Jamie

The meeting with Verten was a success, and they’d be crazy not to hand the project over to AD. Liam had worked his ass off to make it happen, and if my latest interaction with his father was any indication, I guess there was a lot more riding on the result of this particular meeting than he was letting on.

It was clear they didn’t exactly see eye to eye, and judging by my own issues, I’d take every chance I got to prove my father wrong, too.

Liam had come to conquer and that was exactly what he did. I kept avoiding eye contact the whole time, but noticed how he thrived and dominated the whole scene. His dominance and unwavering confidence was as much of a turn on as his sculpted body and alluring eyes.
