“Are we still up for later tonight?”

“Of course. It’s tradition. We might have company, though, if you don’t mind.”

“The Kennedy’s younger son?” I chuckled.

“Hell, no!” Alison almost shouted, “Jamie, she works at AD, too.”

Jamie? Fuck!

Alison gestured towards the bar, my eyes catching on her perfect form, her bare back turned to me, covered by Matt’s hand. It hung low, barely on the limit before the curve of her ass. He whispered something in her ear, making her avert her gaze to the floor.

Why the fuck did he have his hands all over her?

“You don’t mind, do you?” Alison asked again, her voice pulling me from the sight before me for a mere second.

“No.” I quickly replied before cutting through the crowd straight at them, each step closer, heavier on the ground.

There was a sudden heat rising through my core as anger burned everything in its path inside me. Jealousy was reserved for weak men, yet here I fucking was, languishing in it like a pig in dry mud.

“...you look absolutely ravishing in that dress. I couldn’t help it even if I wanted to.” I heard him saying.

Damn! I loved my brother, but right now I wanted to rip his fucking arm off and beat him with it. Each muscle in my body was a mass of wrath, my hands clenched tightly into fists as my nails dug into my palms.

“She does, doesn’t she?” I spat out between gritted teeth. My tone was dark and full of menace, clear for anyone to hear. My brother knew fairly well what he was doing and that his paws were set on something that belonged to me.

Only… she didn’t.

Despite my tone, Matt made no move to peel himself off her, making me wonder if he knew who she was or was just playing dumb.

I took in her shocked expression, her full, plump lips parting as she acknowledged my presence. It was clear to see that she had no idea I was Alison’s brother, and going by the panic on her face, I was the last person she expected to see here tonight.

“Where are my manners? Let me introduce you two. Liam, this is Jamie Harden, my date tonight.” Matt paused, allowing that little information to sink in before continuing, “Miss Harden, this is Liam Dornier, my little brother.”

“There’s no need for introductions. We are well acquainted with each other.” I hissed, my eyes settled on Matt’s.

My dearest brother didn’t lose that shit-eating grin he had on his face, pulling Jamie against his side, looking down into her eyes, making sure their faces hung inches apart for my viewing pleasure.

“You don’t say? I had no idea. There’s still a lot to find out about this beauty.” He smiled, knowing I’d see right through his words. He did know who she was. At least in the version I’d painted for him when I told him all about the woman who’d stolen my every thought.

He made a point to keep touching her, pushing the limit further each time. I was close to an explosive eruption, wanting nothing more than to yank her from his arms and kiss her in front of every damn person in this room so they all knew who those lips belonged to.

“A word?” I demanded, my voice strangled in fury and bitterness. Matt followed behind me before I stopped a few feet away, out of listening range.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I roared.

“Proving a point.”

“What?”

“You are not some reverse version of Midas, Liam.” Matt berated me, some kind of lesson being taught in the most twisted of ways. “You will not fuck up everything you touch. This girl, she’s different from the others, I can tell. But you won’t let yourself go there because you’re a fucking coward.”

“Oh so now you believe in love and shit?” I’d never thought of my brother as a hypocrite, but here he was, lecturing me on something he’d sworn off.

“I’ve never not believed in it. It might not be in the cards for me, but it doesn’t mean you and Alison can’t live a happy, normal life.”

“Sure, because everything about our life is fucking normal.”

“Just don’t be a dick and take the win when it hits you in the damn face.”
