For the longest time, the guys believed that bill was the reason Reece was targeted in the first place, but I thought we dismissed that theory after Reece confessed the truth about his involvement with POP.

“I just can’t help but think it’s related somehow,” Dom says, biting down on his lower lip. “So, I looked into things further and discovered that Reece submitted this bill a few times, and every time, it got rejected. He didn’t get nearly enough support for it. But this time, it looked as if he was actually going to get enough backers to get it signed.” Dom’s eyes flick to me and then immediately away.

My heart pounds dauntingly in my chest. I wouldn’t be surprised if Zane could feel it as well.

“So, you think that was why The Divine One decided to act when he did?” Beckett leans forward curiously, his ink-smudged fingers steepling together on his thighs.

“Now that he’s gone, the bill’s dead,” Dominic explains.

As of two weeks ago, Reece’s disappearance has been officially declared a missing persons case, after his estranged wife filed a report. At first, I worried my guys would be suspects—after all, Zane was the one who technically kidnapped him—but Landon assured me he had it handled.

And since the police haven’t come banging down our door to arrest them, I had to believe him.

“That could just be a coincidence.” My voice is higher pitched than I would’ve liked. “Or maybe The Divine One knew we would make that connection and is trying to throw us off.”

Landon relents with a sigh. “Both of those things could be true, kitten.” He focuses his silver gaze on Dominic. “Don’t make the bill your priority, Dom, but still look into it.” I want to protest, but I know that would be stupid and selfish.

We need to look at every angle if we have any hope of taking POP down.

Dom nods once in agreement and then reclaims his seat, his posture unnaturally stiff and his gaze fixated on something over my shoulder. He probably thinks I’m pissed at him for looking into this bill, even after I begged him not to.

But I’m not.

I’m simply terrified of what answers he’ll find and what they’ll mean for me and my family. For Fischer.

Potent, acerbic fear crawls its way up my throat like a furry spider.

Please, Fischer, don’t be involved in this mess. Please. Please. Please. I can’t lose you too.

“I’ll go next,” Beckett says, pulling his laptop off the table and settling it on his lap. Beck—our resident tech guru—has been in charge of going through the app we found on both Harvey Rollins’s phone and Seth Clemmon’s phone, a security guard who works for my brother.

Somehow, The Divine One was able to track Harvey’s phone to Dominic’s cabin, so Beckett destroyed that phone. We’ve been using Seth’s phone since then—though, this time, Beckett took the necessary precautions to ensure we won’t be traced.

My sexy Brit opens his mouth to speak…just as someone pounds their fist against the front door.

All of my guys tense, and Ryker immediately snaps, “Who the fuck is that? What’s happening?” His words are practically a hiss.

Landon immediately swipes the phone from the table and hangs up, ensuring Ryker won’t be overheard, as Beckett edges toward the front door. Zane’s arms tighten around me nearly imperceptibly.

And then a strident, familiar voice shouts, “Let me in, asswipes! I know you’re hiding my girl in there.”

Another voice interjects in a sultry French accent, “Our girl, mi amore. Quit being possessive. Sharing is caring, after all.”

I hide my growing smile in Zane’s arms as Dom and Landon exchange wide-eyed, terrified looks.

POP doesn’t scare them.

The Divine One doesn’t scare them.

My Uncle Raymond doesn’t scare them.

What does scare them, however?

My three closest girlfriends.
