“Or at least be in deep shit together if they both forget.”

We laugh until we have tears rolling down our faces.

Changing the subject to get back on track for this evening, I say, “I think I’m going to wear the black stretchy mid thigh skirt and the pale pink sleeveless blouse.”

I can wear my strappy black heels with it.

“Oh, that will be perfect and totally cute.” Mara thinks for a minute. “I think I’ll wear that red dress that Seth picked out a couple of weeks ago that I haven’t been able to wear yet.”

“The one that fits you like a second skin?” I ask, remembering the picture she sent me.

She pulls me towards her room. “Yeah and the half sleeves. I think I have my silver wedges with me.”

Sitting on the edge of their bed, I watch as she looks through her closet. “So, how’s the paper?”

I quit the newspaper job almost eight months ago to become a high school teacher. I loved working with Mara, but I knew the job wasn’t a right fit, so I applied for a teaching job at our old high school.

Teaching seniors this past year has been the best.

Mara is now an editor at the newspaper and has her own column where she answers readers' questions. Anything and everything from relationship advice to recipes.

“It’s going pretty well. My column has been a huge hit. Both readers and other writers are loving it.”

Coming out of the closet, she says, “How’s the school? Are you staying at the high school or going to try to get a job at the university?”

She has been encouraging me to continue my education for several months now, so I can work with Damien.

I think that is a horrible idea because I know how jealous I got seeing the female students flirt with him.

Plus, there are a lot of bad memories linked to the campus. I haven’t been back since graduation.

“I think I am going to stick with high school. Someone has to make the students fall in love with reading, and I am just the person for the job.”

Seniors are more relaxed than any other grade. If only I could get rid of the extra drama they seem to bring to class.

“Yeah, they will just love reading. More like they will love looking at you. How does Damien feel? Is he jealous?”

She’s being sarcastic, but my students have been great this past year.

“Why would Damien be jealous of my job?”

Damien is still a yoga professor and head of his department, as well as head of student activities. He loves his job.

Mara lets out a loud laugh. “Uh, because you have young men ogling you all day.”

“Please. They are kids. Plus, I am totally in love with Damien.”

Damien knows just what I like. He encourages me to keep an open mind and brings me more pleasure than anyone ever has before.

I add, “Plus, how could I do that to Seth? You know he loves teasing you about how I followed in his footsteps.”

Seth is still an English professor at the university and a hacker on the side.

His skills may or may not have clued us in that this house was coming to market soon. The four of us jumped at the chance to be the first offer.

Rich aromas drift in through the open bedroom door. My stomach lets out a loud growl.

“Are they already cooking?” Mara looks at her watch. “We have been talking for almost two hours! We need to hurry and get ready.”
