Why was I even scared?
Relief floods me as I switch my tassel to the opposite side and step off the stage.
It is truly over.
The rest of the graduation goes by in a blur. I can’t concentrate on anything but meeting back up with Damien and spending the weekend in his bed.
Not a moment too soon, we are introduced as the newest class of graduates. Several students throw their caps in the air.
Mara and I hold on to our caps to make a quick getaway.
“Let’s go meet up with the guys.” Mara pulls me to the side of the stage where Seth and Damien are waiting for us.
Damien pulls me into a hug and kisses me, not caring who can see.
Mara whistles loudly, causing my face to blush red.
Damien blurts out. “Let’s go back to the Cape.”
“Really?” My voice mimics the surprise I am feeling.
Damien’s grin gets wider. “Yep. My car is already packed. I hope your parents don’t mind me taking you away.”
“But my stuff-” I don’t need much, but a bathing suit would be nice.
Damien cuts me off. “Already packed.”
“How?”
Did he go into my room and pack for me?
Mara laughs. “I helped a little.”
That explains it.
“I thought we were going to celebrate together with a huge dinner and drinks?”
Mara and I always dreamed of this.
I was looking forward to it.
Although, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look forward to spending alone time with Damien.
Seth chimes in. “Mara and I are renting the other unit in the duplex that the two of you are staying in.”
Damien adds, “We can have a huge dinner together, complete with drinks, before going our separate ways tonight. But I think we should take the parents out to eat for lunch, so they don’t feel cheated for time.”
He really thought of everything to make this the most perfect weekend ever.
“I love you.” I say, hoping he knows just how much I care for him.
He grins from ear to ear and says, “I love you more.”
Chapter Twenty Four
ONE YEAR LATER
“Guys, come on! Seriously, lunch is ready and getting warm!” I yell out the back door to the guys hanging out on the beach.
