Mara picks up her and Seth’s plates. “Should we just carry the plates to the table outside? They aren’t going to want to come inside with the weather as nice as it is.”

“Yeah. Sounds good to me. Maybe they will actually come up here if they see us waiting for them.”

They’ve been down there for hours.

Mara rolls her eyes. “I wouldn’t count on it. You know it’s part of their deal. If Seth does morning yoga, then Damien has to learn to play football in the afternoon.”

“Oh, I know, but when are the two of them going to do more than just toss the ball back and forth? I mean, we have been here for three days now, and the two of us have spent more time together than we have spent alone with our guys. We have to bribe them with food to spend time with us.”

Mara, thankfully, understands my teasing.

“I guess it will just have to be the two of us.” Mara lets out a dramatic sigh. “If only I had used my wild college years to explore, I might know how to please a woman.”

I nod my head and sigh. “Seems like we need the guys, after all.”

Laughing, we bring our plates outside to the patio table that overlooks the beach before going back inside to grab our drinks.

Damien and Seth jog up the steps to meet us on the deck.

Damien gives me a kiss before taking his seat. “Lunch looks good.”

Seth leans across the table to give Mara a kiss. “Thanks for making lunch.”

As I take my seat, I breathe in the fresh sea air and look around the solid oak table at my three best friends.

My smile is wide and my heart is full.

“What are you thinking about?” Damien says as he tosses a potato chip into his mouth.

“Nothing really. Just that I can’t believe we did it. We are all here together and this-” I motion to the house behind us, “This is all of ours.”

Mara and I share a smile. “Yeah, I never thought that I’d be joint owner of such an amazing house, especially so soon after graduation.”

Instead of waiting for retirement, the four of us chipped in and bought a small two-bedroom vacation house on the Cape.

Of course, the guys chipped in more than Mara and I were able to, but we are all equal owners.

Mara takes a large bite of her turkey and avocado sandwich. “How lucky were we that we found a house in our budget that had two master bedrooms with amazing showers?”

Seth and Damien reply at the same time. “Extremely.”

“So, not to outdo the two of you or put down your amazing sandwiches, but how about Seth and I cook a nice romantic dinner for you lovely ladies?” Damien offers in between bites of his sandwich.

“Great idea.” Seth adds, “And we will even do the cleanup afterwards.”

It seems like they have an ulterior motive, but I can’t figure out what it is yet.

I search Damien’s face for the real reason he is offering to cook dinner. “Whoa, bringing out the big guns.”

“I’m down for some spoiling. It’s about time you guys want to spend some time with us.” Mara gives me a wink before laughing.

After we finish eating our sandwiches and chips, I stand and say, “Let’s clean up from lunch and then we can get ready for tonight. Mara can help me find something decent to wear.”

Damien helps clear the table and bring the glassware inside. “Perfect. Plus, we have to go to the store and figure out what we are going to make.”

Taking the glasses from him, I say, “I meant Mara and I would clean up, but thank you for helping.”

His normal cocky grin is replaced by a sheepish one, making me believe something is definitely going on.
