Everyone watched with bated breath to see what she was going to do.

“Oh, for crying out loud,” King muttered, picking up the cup and taking a drink, only to wince before placing it back in front of his wife. “Jesus Christ, Scribe. How much sugar did you put in that thing? It tastes awful!”

“Does not,” Scribe stated. “Bails and I like our coffee sweet. Nothing wrong with that. Is there, Bails?”

“Huh.” The aggrieved woman’s head snapped up. “Wait. You’re talking to me? You’re not mad at me?”

“Why would I be mad at you?”

“Because I poked holes in all your condoms, you dork!”

Scribe smirked. “Yeah, you did do that, didn’t you? Which reminds me, Henley. We need to swing by the pharmacy and pick up a pregnancy test.”

Blushing, I whispered, “Don’t you think it’s a little early for that?”

“No need.” Freyja smiled happily. “She’s pregnant.”

“What!?” I gasped, looking at Scribe’s sister. “How do you know that?”

Freyja shrugged. “Lucille told me.”

“Well,” Scribe scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Guess that settles everything then. The great Lucille Ball has spoken. By any chance, did she also tell you what the sex was?”

Freyja narrowed her eyes. “No, but she did say that your kid will share a birthday with another whom they will marry one day.”

“Say what?” I asked.

Freyja shrugged again, getting to her feet, smirking to herself, as she headed for the door. “You’ll see.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Scribe

We had just walked back into the clubhouse when Cameron barreled into me. “You’re back!”

Picking up the brat, I nodded. “Yeah. And just what in the hell have you been into? You stink.”

“Manly things. Where is Henley?”

“She needed to take care of some stuff at her place. She’ll be back later. Now, what manly things have you been up to?” I asked the varmint as I headed out back. With the weather getting colder by the day, I wanted to get my greenhouse finished. The quicker I got the beds lined with dirt and manure, the quicker I could start planting.

Upon entering the greenhouse, I plopped Cameron back on his feet and took stock of what still needed to be done, only to smile when I saw he had filled two of the raised beds already.

“Dude! Did you do that?”

“Uh huh.” Cameron smiled happily. “I did good, didn’t I?”

“You sure did, kid.”

“And I started on the one in the back.”

“Awesomesauce.”

Shrugging off my coat, I hung it on the hook by the door, grinning as Cameron did the same. Grabbing my shovel, I got to work with the best little helper around.

Sometime later, Cameron and I were sitting on the small bench, surveying all of our hard work when he asked. “You better now, Scribe?”

Taking a drink of water, I looked at the kid. “Yep. All better now.”
