Sophia was shaking now. "How am I supposed to take care of a baby? A child, an actual person? I can't do that. I can't raise a child; I'm barely into my late twenties. I can barely take care of myself." She shook her head and a tear slipped out. "I can't do this. I can't."

The tears in her eyes jolted me back to reality. Pushing back my somewhat temporal paralysis, I shot to my feet, and pulled her into my arms. A sob choked out of her. She wrapped her arms around me and held me tightly. "I can't do this."

"Who said anything about you doing it alone?" I patted her hair soothingly. "I'm yours, Sophia. I'm not going to leave you; we did this together. It's not your fault. Please try to calm down. It'll be okay."

"That's easy for you to say. You don't have a human being growing inside of you." Despite the harshness of her tone, she burrowed her head deeper into my shoulder. "I just got this job, I'm not fit, and I get tired just from climbing my apartment stairs. How am I supposed to push out a baby?"

"That's still months away from now."

She released me and stepped back. "And then there's you. We just made our relationship official. I doubt you want to be with me. There's no way you would want me and a child."

"I think I can decide for myself what I want." I stepped closer. "Did you not hear what I said? I'm not going anywhere. I want you." I took her hand in mine. "Both of you."

"You're just saying that."

"No, I'm not. Of course, I'm not. You know me, Sophia. You know that I wouldn't lie about something like this. You know the kind of person I am. I've never lied to you. This is why you've been distant? You were scared to tell me?"

She nodded. "I didn't know how you would react."

"I don't mind, Sophia. It's unexpected and unplanned, but we'll figure it out." I interlocked our fingers and brought her hand to my lips. "Do you hear me? We'll figure it out."

"We've only known each other for a few months."

"Yet I feel like I've known you my whole life." I cupped her face. "Sometimes it's not about how long you've known someone. It's about how you feel. I know how I feel about you, Sophia. Nothing can change those feelings. Nothing can make me leave you." I smirked at her. "Not even your awfully loud snoring."

She rolled her eyes. "For the hundredth time, I do not snore." I raised a brow at her. "Okay maybe I do, and that's a huge maybe, but it's not that bad."

"It's like a storm. I thought the world was coming to an end the first time I slept over."

She tilted her head and squinted slightly with a hum. "And yet, you said nothing."

"We were just getting into the honeymoon phase. I didn't want to ruin it. Also, if my memory is correct, you distracted me the next morning."

She giggled. "Don't act like you didn't enjoy it.'

"Of course, I did. Best morning of my life." Her smile was brighter. "Do you feel better now? Calm?"

She nodded. "Thank you."

"For what? You don't have to thank me for anything, Sophia. Everything I do is for you."

I wanted to tell her I loved her, but I held myself back. Not now. Not yet. When I made that declaration, when I told her exactly how much she changed my life, and how the moon shone in her eyes, it wouldn't be in my office when she'd just finished crying. It would be somewhere special.

Instead, I leaned down and kissed her. Her arms wrapped around my neck instantly. She pressed my head closer to her and deepened the kiss.

I settled my hands on the curve of her waist. Her stomach was still flat, obviously, but just knowing there was something inside, someone, a mixture of the both of us. A mini-Sophia or a mini-me brought a smile to my face.

The door to my office burst open suddenly.

"Hey Alex, I-" A pause, then, "What the actual fuck?"

I separated from the kiss. Standing in the doorway to my office was my brother, Chris. He stared at me in shock, and then his gaze shifted. Right to Sophia.

Chapter Fourteen Sophia

I stared at Chris with wide, unblinking eyes. It had been months since I'd last seen him, but he looked exactly the same.

Dark eyes, a square jaw, and tanned skin. He wore a loose t-shirt and dark pants. His expression was hard, and his hands were clenched by his sides.
