“Later it is,” Tony said.

Kassandra waved, watching Andy run home.

“This is what I hoped for,” she said. “Family for our family. It just seems fitting that our baby will have cousins a half mile away.”

Tony put his arm around her shoulders. “So, did I impregnate you last night?” he asked.

“I think you did,” she replied confidently. Patting her belly, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “I wanted nothing as badly as I want this. I thought waiting for the results of my medical school entrance exam was intense. At least I had some control over that.”

“You have so much control, Kassie. The most important thing is that you’re healthy.We’rehealthy. I’ll even give up my weekly cigar.”

“There is a God!”

Back inside, they puttered around the kitchen, fixing toast and coffee.

“All the stuff they say about focusing on relaxing is coming to me right now,” Kassandra said. “I can feel the anxiety building up, and I don’t want to do that.”

“Come here,” Tony said, pulling her into an embrace. His hand slid down to her soft little belly. “Flat as a board. Soon it will be out to here.” He mounded his hand. “I can’t wait. I’ve never seen a naked pregnant woman before, except inNational Geographic.”

Barking out a laugh, Kassandra threw her arms around his body. “God, I love you. Thank you for going on this journey with me.”

“You didn’t exactly give me a choice,” he said, snickering. “I don’t want to live without you, so whatever you want, I have to do.”

“I’ll only make good choices for us,” she replied. Glancing around, she put her finger on her cheek. “This place isn’t as bad as I remembered. I think some room-sized area rugs over this marble should be good enough. And his furniture is great. I’d forgotten that Igor had some exquisite taste.”

“It was probably Pam, his old GF. My father is still kind of an IKEA guy.”

“IKEA is okay, too. Truthfully, just our things around will make this home. What do you think?”

“I’m good with it. Should we keep my place up north?” Tony asked.

“No, unless you like the golf course,” Kassandra answered. “I’ll probably never go there again.”

“Okay, it’s for sale, then,” Tony decided. “I’ll give you the money toward this place, and maybe you’ll share the title with me.”

“Ha! Maybe.”

“I want to get married,” he said abruptly.

“Aw, Tony, I dumped a lot on you fast. Think about the implications, okay? We’ve been together for ten years. Marriage won’t change how I feel about you, baby.”

She smoothed his bald head and pulled it down for a kiss. Her hands wandered over his body, palpating his massive erection.

“I need to shower,” he murmured, returning her kiss.

“I’ll shower with you.”

Later that morning, they lay in bed together, satiated.

“If I’m not pregnant after that…”

He kissed her and sat up. “How long do you wait until you test?”

“I can test in ten days, but it’s better to wait to miss a period. That’s due in two weeks. I’m right in the middle of my cycle, so it’s the optimum time.”

“We never talked about your periods before. I never know if you’re even having one most of the time.”

“I have a diaphragm I can use so we can still have sex and it’s not messy.”
