“Kassie, I wouldn’t care about that.”

“I would,” she replied, getting out of bed. “I like my sheets.”

Tony watched her walking around the new bedroom, naked. Kassandra’s slender body had some surprises the first time he saw her, with a tight little ass and big breasts.

“I guess this is something I have to get used to. You naked in front of the sea.”

She stretched her arms out and cried like a banshee, making him laugh. “No one’s out there yet. It’s too early and too cold. I’m more worried about the family showing up unannounced. I won’t like the drop-in.”

“No, they won’t do that,” Tony promised. “They hate it as much as we do. Andy confided that Sandra will look right through the window at an uninvited guest and shake her head.”

“Ha! Good for her,” Kassandra replied. “She seems slightly taciturn. I like her a lot, though. She’ll be a good source of information if I get pregnant.”

He watched her slipping a shirt on over her head, her breasts moving under the fabric as she picked up the bedspread they’d kicked to the floor. She was familiar and a stranger at the same time. How had they ever found each other?

“I love you.”

She walked over to him, bending down to kiss him. “I love you, too. Feel like going to the grocery store? I want to explore the town.”

“Sure,” he answered, getting up. “I just thought I’m pretty lucky to have found you. What are the chances we’d have ever met if not for my father? I’d better be nicer to him for that.”

“I think we were destined to meet.”

In Igor’s clothes closet, Kassandra had already stuffed the clothes he’d left into boxes and hung up the few things they’d brought along. Tony eyed a black vinyl folder in the corner on the top shelf. He was tall enough to grasp it and pull it down. Several envelopes floated down on his head.

“What’s this?” he muttered.

“Who are you talking to?” Kassandra called from the bathroom.

“I think I just found my father’s will,” he said, removing a piece of paper from the envelope that had drifted down, the black folder under his arm. “He’s been communicating with an estate lawyer down here. Dan Chua. I think that’s who Andy said my dad’s ex-girlfriend is seeing now.”

Kassandra came out of the bathroom and peered over his shoulder.

“Iggie hates that guy,” Kassandra said.

“Look! He completely rewrote his will once you talked to him about buying the house.”

“What would that have to do with his will?” she asked.

“Probably removing the house from his estate. He knew you were going to buy it before I did.”

“What’s the letter say?”

“Read this,” Tony said, a tick in his jaw. He shoved the paper under Kassandra’s nose. “It’s a letter from my sister!”

She read it aloud. “Dad, you need to rethink giving Tony so much equity in the house. That money should be dividedbetween me, Serena, and Andy, too. What the fuck! Can I see that folder?”

She held her hand out, and Tony passed her the folder printed in gold lettering:Last Will and Testament of Igor Antonio Roman.

“It’s a new will. Dated this time last month.” Kassandra pointed to the date. “He said he wanted to sell, and I told him I was interested. I didn’t know he shared the info with Angie. She hates me on a good day.”

“Angie is a troublemaker,” Tony said, opening the letters from Dan Chua. “Look. Dan advises him against changing his will based on the house sale. It must have been before you contacted him because he mentions the market value, which is considerably more than you are paying him.”

“Subtract six percent for the realtor fees,” Kassandra said. “He said that was the only concession he could make because he needed the money for his estate.” She handed the papers back to Tony. “I don’t think we need to get involved with this. I wonder if Andy knows.”

“I think he would have said something,” Tony replied.

“Maybe if you were buying it, he would have. But since I am, it’s sort of irrelevant. I will not be mentioned in his will,” Kassandra reminded him. “You’ll still get your quarter.”
