“You’re a lot braver than me, Penn. Getting my nipple pierced hurt enough. Nobody’s ever getting near my cock with a needle.”

It took a moment for his words to register with me before I snorted with laughter, and Mason joined in.

“Good choice, man.” He pointed at his brothers. “They talked me into it—”

“And then you put your foot down and made us pay someone for them.” Penn rolled his eyes, taking another sip of his drink.

“Oh yeah, sue me for not wanting to get my junk pierced by my own brother!”

Next to me, Roy’s entire body vibrated with suppressed laughter.

“It’s always such a joy to hang out with you three,” I groaned, hiding my face in my hand.

“Ditto,” Ed chuckled. “Just to be clear, Roy, I’m a tattoo artist and piercer, not some dude randomly poking holes into other peoples’ cocks.”

Penn entertained us with anecdotes from his job. He worked as a librarian—the most unusual specimen I had ever seen—and told the funniest stories about his patrons at Broomshire’s university library.

“…and then I get back there and find these two guys fucking in Ancient Greek.”

“How fitting,” Mason supplied dryly, sucking the rest of his gin and tonic up his straw.

“That's what I said.” Penn smirked, plush lips pursed.

“You let them…”

“Finish? Of course. I'm not a monster.” He winked at me. “Judging by the sounds they were making, they were close anyway. I warned them not to get spunk on my floor, though.”

“You did?” Ed's eyes were leaking, and Roy looked like he was about to burst.

He waved his broad hand in the air. “That's where I draw my line, little bro.”

“Quite understandable. Fucking in the library? Fine with me. Spunk on the floor? Hard pass.”

“Well, it's not them who would have to mop it up,” Penn said sternly, all his playfulness gone. “Hardly anyone reads Ancient Greek, so they weren't disturbing the other customers. I only heard them because…” He shrugged. Because hisspecies had acute senses was what he was trying to say. “But being assholes about it? Not on my watch.”

Our conversation was interrupted by a guy approaching our table. He gave Ed a long, sweeping look.

“Hey, I've been watching you from over there.” He inched his head back at the bar. “Wanna dance with me, gorgeous?”

Ed surveyed the newcomer, who vaguely reminded me of a popular singer, then nodded, looking around at Roy and me so he could get out of the booth. We shimmied out of the bench, and watched Ed disappear in the crowd.

A warm hand on my arm stopped me from sitting back down. Leaning in, Roy brought his lips close to my ear.

“Would you like to dance, too?”

I gave him a small smile. “Yeah, I do. Guys, do you mind if–”

Mason shook his head, one eyebrow cocked. “Go ahead, have fun.”

I quickly took off my blazer and deposited it on the bench.

Roy took my hand and turned in the direction of the hammering beats. The room that housed the dance floor was dark; only a few colourful lamps flashed their lights across the mass of sweaty bodies.

He easily parted the crowd with his bulk. We wove through the throngs of dancing people until we were in the middle of the dance floor, where he suddenly stopped and turned around.

With the added height of my heels, I was just tall enough to be able to put my arms around his neck, bringing my body close to Roy's. His hands palmed my waist, spanning so far around that his fingertips almost brushed my spine.

He was an excellent dancer, his body moving fluidly to the music and firmly taking me along for the ride. I loved it when people knew how to lead. We made it through a couple of faster songs, both grinning wildly as the dopamine rush hit our brains. Then the tune changed to a slow, sexy piece by the singer Ed's dance partner had reminded me of. All around us couples moved closer, and so did we.
