This woman.

I shake my head at what we just did. I'm stuck in the broom cupboard while my teammates party in the club. I couldn’t care less.

I’m booking the flights when I get home. There’s no doubt about it.

I need to see her in person. And it needs to happen now.

"Hey, you look lost," Emmerson says as I emerge into the hallway. She’s almost as tall as me, with long red hair flowing down her back.

I feel a little sheepish, knowing what I was just doing over the phone with her best friend. “Yeah, I did get lost.” I lie. “Looking for the bathrooms. Where’s Taylor?”

“I left him in the club so I can find the ladies’ room.”

“You know, I’m happy for you both,” I tell her. They were dating for years after prom but split up for six years. “It’s been a long time coming.”

“Thanks, Ashton. I knew there was a reason I always liked you.”

“Tell that to your bestie.”

She laughs. “I don’t think she needs me to tell her that.”

Definitely not. I think we’re already halfway to something good. “I think I’m going to head out to Florida sooner rather than later,” I blurt out.

“Oh, really?”

“I owe your best friend a date.”

“She’ll be happy.”

I smile. “I hope so.” I thumb towards the club entry. “I better get back in there.”

“It’s getting a little wild. We might leave soon.”

I chuckle. “Might be a good idea.”

I choose to leave with them. I don't get too drunk, I want to be fresh for Maddison in case there’s a round two.

I’m too high on winning the cup, combined with what happened with Mads.

I can’t wait to lay in bed later tonight and savor every moment we had tonight in the broom closet.

I can deal with the rest later. My dad. Heading out to see mom. Everything else in my life. It can all wait.

I share a cab with the love birds. It’s kind of cute, and I bet the last thing they want is me here. I could have picked up a girl tonight, but I'm not interested. I have my eyes set on one girl, and one girl only.

“Ash says he’s heading out to see Maddie in Florida.” Em giggles as Taylor nuzzles into her neck while she tries to swat him away.

I laugh quietly and look out of the window. They’re both pretty tipsy.

“What can I say? She’s a great girl.”

“You better not break her heart.” Taylor points at me. “Then you’ll have Em to deal with.”

I glance at her as she gives him a fake punch on the arm. “Hey, Ashton has always been one of my favorites.”

I grin. “See. I can’t be all that bad. And anyway, what ifshebreaksmyheart?”

“Not possible, Ash, she’s crazy about you!” Em slaps a hand over her mouth. “Oops.”
